the newest Aman, Amanera (Dominican Republic)

We are delighted to announce the launch of Amanera, scheduled to open in the Dominican Republic during the fourth quarter of 2015. Water is omnipresent and intrinsic in the design of Amanera, which draws its name from the Sanskrit-derived word for ‘peace’ and era, the word for ‘water’ in Taíno, historically spoken by the indigenous people of the Caribbean.

The resort is situated on 2,000 acres of virtually untouched land comprised of verdant peaks and lush jungle with centuries-old trees and royal palms stretching across nearly seven miles of continuous Atlantic seacoast on Hispaniola’s northern shore.

Amanera will become the first golf-integrated Aman, sited alongside the undulating fairways and challenging greens of the lauded Playa Grande Golf Course, with the highest number of oceanside holes in the Western hemisphere.

Each of the 25 one-bedroomed Casitas will enjoy unobstructed ocean vistas from an expansive terrace, outdoor seating and lounging areas and through floor-to-ceiling windows from the spacious, high-ceilinged living and sleeping areas. Every Casita is accessed via a winding pathway through a private garden and 13 Casitas feature their own 10-metre private swimming pools. For more information, please click on the links below.

Taking reservations for Jan 11 and beyond.

VIP wait list for anything prior (despite a Q4 opening, highly unlikely that will happen).

First 'golf integrated' Aman? What about Amanusa?

It seems to me like semantics rather than a meaningful difference (for non-golfers like me, anyway), but Amanusa's course "lies adjacent" to the resort (presumably with separate ownership), versus the course at Amanera being a part of the resort.

From http://www.amanresorts.com/amanusa/golf.aspx

The newly-renovated Bali National Golf Club, recognised as one of Asia’s top five courses, lies adjacent to Amanusa and offers a driving range, putting and chipping greens and a pro shop. Designed by Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright, the championship 18-hole course enjoys a scenic seaside setting. Amanusa guests will enjoy a priority reservation system at the course and may sign all charges to their Amanusa account.
Presumably the benefit for golfers is that Aman will have complete control over the guest experience at the course (rather than sending guests to a course that they don't own), though I have no clue what the differences will be in practice.

Amanera

Other thread here has transfers being offered by Aman from Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo. They should also offer complimentary transfer from El Catey/Samana Airport which offers non stop flights on JetBlue, Wednesday and Saturday from JFK.
A high amount of fatal traffic accidents have been occurring on these roads and driving in the DR should not be taken lightly.

Can you imagine us discussing the difference between 'adjacent' and 'integrated' a year ago when discussing an Aman?

Meh. Reading the GMs' resume lowered my service expectations by a long shot.

The worst part - they are claiming "not a single person was deported".
This is the last place I want to visit.
Funny, I was suspended for making a similar "political" statement about Bhutan, where it's equally true. Double standards.

Speaking last night with an individual who owns a fully staffed residence near Amanera, he commented that properly staffing the Aman will be a formidable task.

Positively, however, he said the weather at the location is nice year round. Mid-80s, breezes and no rain in the summer.

A serious question.

I'm pretty sure it's the cheapest Caribbean destination for many Europeans...
