More info on Ritz/MO renovations:

The restoration is currently estimated to cost some €90 million (US$103 million) and will encompass all guestrooms, suites and public areas, including the hotel’s restaurants and bars, meeting facilities and ballroom. The hotel will also benefit from the addition of a Mandarin Oriental spa and new wellness facilities.

The Group is currently finalizing the design plans and working with local authorities regarding appropriate permit approvals and will unveil more comprehensive details as soon as they are finalised. In the meantime, it is business as usual at the hotel throughout 2017.

Wow...business as usual throughout 2017. Renos won't start until '18.

Therefore AVOID until 2019. It is too expensive for how shabby it is. For me it only underlined how wildly inconsistent MO properties are.

Looking at a possible trip to Madrid in October, and I guess renovations at MO either hasn't started or will be in full swing? What's the best option in Madrid at this time?

If you want to be by the Prado, the Westin Palace. Otherwise, Villa Magna.

Are these hotels in Madrid recommended? Thinking of this as my next holiday destination.

The Ritz Madrid ( now under MO ) looks so old like its falling apart so I think I will skip it.
