Thanksgiving ideas?

Ok I know I'm a bit late into planning this, but would love to hear your suggestion on where to go for a short getaway for Thanksgiving

Prefer to stay in the US - since it'd be only a 4-5 night stay, I'd prefer short travel

I will be traveling solo so prefer to avoid family resorts - not sure if this is a stretch since it's Thanksgiving, but would definitely want to stay somewhere more adults-only

Looking for good food and maybe beautiful scenery and places to get around

A few places I have in mind are Post Ranch Inn and Twin Farms (not sure if November would be a good time to visit?) Both places are high on my bucket list but I'm just not sure if November would be a good time to visit both places.

Any suggestions are highly appreciated!

looking at online reservations (after adding service charge to twin farms) >
$1843 - twin farms - through night of wed nov 26 and from night of sun nov 30
$1944 - the point - through night of tues nov 25
neither showing 27/28/29 (make sure to ask about single occupancy discount)
perhaps there is another property in that area that could be combined for 27/28/29
5 night stay including thanksgiving could start between sun nov 23 and thurs nov 27

If food is a large consideration, I'd do Meadowood over Post Ranch for Thanksgiving.

Not even close to luxury but just about as good as you will find in a National Park is the Furnace Creek Inn in Death Valley National Park. There are two suites which are not shown on the hotel webste, you have to know about them and call to check availability.

You must have a rental car, ideally a 4wd. If you like outdoor hikes and unusual scenery with decent weather, you can easily fill 4 days in Death Valley. About a two hour drive from Las Vegas.

The hotel dining room is actually rather good.

Why Thanksgiving weekend if traveling solo? It's the busiest travel weekend of the year.

What's the purpose of the travel. To relax or more active?

I would choose a nice hotel in a city you want to visit rather than going to a resort which may be full of families. At least in a city you can wander around, visit art galleries etc and not be the only person on their own.

I think Twin Farms would be great. I have stayed there on my own and they know how to make you feel comfortable as a solo traveler. They can set a table up anywhere you like so you can be as interactive with other guest as you like. November is a great time there and you should have your first snow by then and its close to Boston.

zigzag, what properties might be combined with twin farms if twin farms is booked some dates?

RichardInSF, what about ahwahnee over thanksgiving as well? or less children at Furnace Creek Inn?

quitecontrary's point was definitely very good >

for amangiri definitely ask and stay in touch re family bookings
only 34 rooms and 4 people (up to 3 children) allowed per room
unless they dropped max occupancy to 3 when they added board

Thank you for all your valuable suggestions, I really appreciate it!

Like everyone on this forum, I'd love to travel and stay at as many bucket-list hotels as possible when I have the chance. Despite heavy traffic, I'd rather go out and stay at somewhere nice than be sulky in my apartment lol

I'd prefer country getaway than being in the city, perfect day would be a morning hike or some scenic drive in the morning, come back to the hotel for a nice spa and afternoon read followed by gourmet dinner.

Twin Farms is my top pick, only concern is the time of the year, I feel like I should save it for fall foliage!

Meadowood/Napa area would be nice too, any adults-only hideaway that you'd recommend?

Maybe not Amangiri at this moment because I've stayed there in the past and would like to stay somewhere new

I stayed at Palmetto Bluff one Thanksgiving on my own, weather was nice, lots of things to do, everything was wonderful but the food was not to par and there were a lot of families there. Anywhere else similar to Palmetto Bluff minus the food/lots of kids part that you'd recommend?

Why not go twice? All accommodation is unique, so it is tempting to try different cottages.

several very good details on twin farms > http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/luxur...win-farms.html

in NY theres 18 room glenmere mansion, age 18 and older, 2 night min
for example - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/luxur...l#post18265402
glenmere and the point are both R&C along with twin farms
cant recall others in northeast with good comments here

5 room poetry inn napa - age 16 and older, pool, dinner on request
(if ~$3K per night, you could ask about buying out poetry inn, or their 3BR pool villa)
50 room auberge du soleil napa - age 16 and older, has restaurant and pool (R&C)

$660+ http://www.kiawahresort.com/accommod...mes/139-flyway
$1336+ http://www.kiawahresort.com/accommod...es/63a-eugenia

1 beachfront no pool >
$499+ or $595+ http://www.kiawahresort.com/accommod...es/88-jackstay

surprisingly, the 105 room standard miami (andre balazs) is age 17 and older

westglow NC is a R&C spa thats age 16 and older
odd R&C doesnt have minimum age as search option when they list it for all hotels
online reservations show no availability >
inn at dos brisas - 9 rooms, R&C site says age 8 and older

18 room farm house inn sonoma - age 10 and older, has restaurant and pool
12 room milliken creek inn napa - only 1 room allows child (book it?) no pool, no restaurant
carneros inn napa has hilltop adult pool - 104 rooms plus 17 fractional residences
solage calistoga napa (auberge ended mgmt jun 30) has adult pool but sells memberships
meadowood napa has adult pool, but sells memberships and KCW mentioned crowds

perhaps sanctuary kiawah pool villa (adult pool 21+ is unheated)
2 beachfront with pool >
$660+ http://www.kiawahresort.com/accommod...mes/139-flyway

(palmetto bluff does have the heated adult river pool)

sea island also has villas with private pools, heated adult pool
plus indoor lap pool for age 16 and older, gym is 14 and older

dont recall any reports here for little st simons island
age 8 and older in winter, available from night of sat nov 29

keswick has adult infinity pool, now same owner/manager as sanctuary kiawah
(they are another one that has members)

sanctuary scottsdale also has a number of villas with private pools
i really enjoyed my stay in casa del sano, and it has a great mountain views
(sanctuary main pool is age 16 and older on fri/sat/sun but excl holidays)
(sanctuary also has members, although initiation was $15K in 2009)
or could earn/spend SPG at phoencian residences, all but 1 with private pool
(although virgin limited edition is probably better spend value for SPG points)

triple creek ranch is 16 and older >
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/luxur...h-montana.html
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/luxur...eek-ranch.html

surprisingly, the 105 room standard miami (andre balazs) is age 17 and older

speaking of 21+ adult pools, FS orlando GM said thats age theirs will be

Thanks for the impressive list Kage!!
Interesting that you mentioned Triple Creek and Sanctuary at Camelback, both properties I went last year! I thought of Triple Creek too, would return if no new better options come up!

Inn at Dos Brisas looks really promising, I have a soft spot for Relais & Chateaux properties.

I'm going to look into Twin Farms first based on all the positive comments here, hopefully they still have rooms available. Thanks for all the suggestions!!

Twin Farms will allow you a little socialization if you want it. The staff and management are very friendly and they have a daily cocktail hour if you want to meet some other guests.

Make sure you take some time to visit the town of Woodstock and just walk around a bit. So cute! And our favorite hike in the area is the carriage trails at the Marsh Billings Rockefeller farm. If you go, PM me and I can send you more info. The trails are wide/groomed and very easy to do on your own.
