Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva

There does not seem to be a master thread on this hotel- and the majority of the posts are somewhat outdated- so here is a recent stay update from June 2014:

1. Greeting at the door was very kind and assistance with bags was immediate. Escorted in to front desk and introduced to the staff.

2. Reservation in order and room ready (it was around 15:30)- upgraded from a
loft to a lake view loft. Note I specifically booked a loft on the 6th floor as this is the only floor of the hotel which has been restored to modern decor. If you want the traditional decor of the hotel the other 5 floors all offer this. Note that I personally far prefer the new modern decor which was completed in October 2013.

3. Escorted to room and a very detailed explanation was provided of the bar, the michelin star Italian restaurant, and the rooftop Japanese restaurant. The woman who escorted us to the room also offered to make reservations at any of the three (also for that evening).

4. Room is very similar to what you can see on the web- great steam room within the shower enclosure, fireplace in the main area (gas), and a very comfortable bed. I personally really enjoy the decor- the desk though is a bit cramped due to its architectural style. Surprisingly we did hear some noise for about 15 minutes as the guests checked in to the room next to us- however never again for the rest of our stay. Room is the major plus here. All products in room were Aqua di Parma which I don't particularly like anymore as they are full of SLS- however to be fair this is quite an upscale in room product.

5. Spa and health club are located on the same floor and the 7th floor of the hotel. Gorgeous infinity pool and wellness pool area. Brand new technogym fitness with 24 hour service. Beautiful although also quite pricey spa with ESPA treatments. Bring money if you are using the spa as you will need it.

6. Rooftop Japanese we visited only for a tea- stunning view of all of Geneva. Excellent service.

7. Bar terrace outside on main floor is on a major pedestrian only thoroughfare. Great people watching, excellent service, and very good drinks.

8. Room Service for breakfast was perfect- great service and order delivered exactly as specified for two.

9. Checkout- again excellent service and name recognition.

As far as service goes- I think this is the top Four Seasons in Europe. The decor is very traditional except for the 6th floor which is new and quite modern. Definitely the best that Geneva offers based on my experiences and the location is literally in the centre of everything. I cannot think of a better place to stay- this being said it is double the price of many of its so-called luxury competitors- it definitely offers a lot more in terms of actually being a luxury hotel and has fabulous views of the lake. I do like dinner by the way at the MO (the Indian Michelin restaurant) which is less than a 10 minute easy walk just down the street.

I agree that FS des Bergues is now one of, if not THE best in Europe. Marc Raffray (ex George V hotel manager) just took over from Jose Silva as GM. Jose is new GM at George V.

Agree that it's the best in Geneva. I love the wild boar ravioli in the restaurant downstairs.
