The Regent Berlin - review
I recentyly completed a stay at The Regent Berlin. I just want to share with you my experience. For all the pictures I took you can have a look here as they show up huge here on Flyertalk.
Hotel : Regent Berlin

Location: Berlin

Introduction
This year I am really trying to get atleast 1 stay at some of the very top hotels in the city that I am visiting. The Regent Berlin was on top of my list and after reading reviews and the overall excitement of the guests I knew I had to book a room at the Regent if only for 1 night.
Arrival and Check-in
I took a taxi from the Hyatt to the Regent hotel and the moment I arrived the staff came out and assisted me and took my luggage. A complete different experience than my arrival at the Hyatt.
The check-in was a bit more personal but that is because they also had a Dutch staff member working at the reception so that always makes the whole thing a bit more fun as you chitchat away about life in The Netherlands.
Room
I knew up front that the Regent Berlin would be a very different experience. Not because of the fact that they seeminly win awards all the time for their great service and overall product but more that the style of the hotel is not something I would normally go for as the hotel is all about taking classical luxury (Biedermaier style) to a next level. I really feel it is: go big or go home!
So as I walked into my room my first impression was: Woah, very different.. but I like it. Very classical but with the right luxury touches to still make you feel that you are in 2014.
Allmost like a time travel but your Iphone stays connected to the 4G. Overall I think that you either love it or you don’t. There is not much room for anything in between but I for one would choose this room again in a heartbeat!
Location
I felt that the location of the Regent was very close to the shopping streets, public transport, museums and such of the city. I spend only about half a day on that day walking through the city and for me it was very easy to navigate the streets of Berlin and then to be able to find my way back to the hotel.
I did not prepare at all when it came to sightseeing and things like that so being in a central location like this helped me with the limited time that I had.
Service
The staff at the Regent all come with a: Yes we can do that, no problem attitude. For me I could feel that they had been trained to (German) perfection to anticipate your needs. I sat down for a coffee in the afternoon and just let the staff take care of me.
I want to mention that the concierge working that day was superb. He really went out of his way to help me get all the information that I needed to make my limited time a success. (Even if in the end I was unable to see what I wanted to see but that was beyond the hotels control!)
Dining and Breakfast
The Regent Berlin has a 2 michelin stars restaurant called Fischers Fritz. The restaurant allready has these 2 stars for 7 years in a row. So I think I dont need to mention that if you are looking to eat at the highest of high level in Berlin… this would be the place to go for lunch or dinner.
The prices on the menu where a bit over what I was willing to pay for a meal as I was looking to eat simpel real German food. (You know, the sauerkraut and bratwurst style dinner) But what is great is that breakfast was also served at the restaurant so I was able to atleast get a feel for the atmosphere and overall look and feel of the restaurant.
The breakfast is served in an a la carte setting (something I love) and the mixture of great quality product and exxcelent service makes for an overall extremely pleasant breakfast experience.
Other interesting observings
The thing that I found very odd is that the hotel puts up multiple: No photo signs. The lobby area and the restaurant are all areas where you are not allowed to take any pictures. Aparently this is because there are loads of ‘’walking-ins’’ from the street that come in and take a selfie and leave again. But to me this seems so tacky and cheap. I am sure the hotel could think of something better to deal with these kind of circumstances
Conclusion
Things I loved
- The service provided by the concierge
- The breakfast experience
- The overall arrival experience (much better than at the Hyatt)
- Look and feel of the hotel
Things I did not like
- The no photo sign and no cellphone sign
- Overall prices for drinks like coffee or tea felt quite high as compared to other hotels even in the 5 star and luxury segment.
As mentioned before up font it was not really the type of hotel I would normally go for but after having stayed here I would so love to return! The hotel gave me the feeling of walking back into time yet keeping all 2014 elements that make a modern day hotel! I had a great stay, great staff, great breakfast.. see you next time!

Did we stay at different hotels I stayed 2 times at the Regent. Once in an Executive Suite and once in a Deluxe Suite. I found the rooms tired, the typical old Four Seasons style.
The sevice was good, but not over the level of other hotels in this category.
The Breakfast was the worst thing in my eyes. Quality was medicore (f.e. cheap cheese) and service was a joke. The restaurant is not my favourite, I expect more from 2 stars. Service is too much, it`s not appropriate to bring 2 dishes with 5 people.
Over all I wasn`t too happy and canceled even one stay and moved to another hotel. From the 4 luxury hotels in Berlin it`s my least favourite. But I´m glad you liked it.

I have stayed here a few times- while the service is very very good I also feel the property is physically quite dated.
The no photos signs stem from a lot of "footballers" staying here and then having people storming the hotel for photos (apparently this is particularly a problem with UK visitors to Berlin). I personally met a few "footballers" in the elevator and they seemed polite enough as long as you weren't taking a photo (which we weren't- I don't even like football).
The physical property of the around the corner Hotel De Rome is far nicer- unfortunately the service is not (better service at the Regent).
Agree the location is perfect for a leisure visit to Berlin.
