Restaurants

Since I don't go to DC to stay, but to dine/stroll around: MO, StR and Jefferson have the best restaurants in my opinion. The Inn has a great restaurant (never stayed), but that is a drive.

I spoke to the Ritz Carleton Washington DC this morning. As I understand
it the Club level lounge is going to relocate to a lower level conference room while it get's redecorated.

I was looking forward to that arrangement and now need to look for another hotel nearby
that provides the same club level experience. Any thoughts.

They don't have clubs, but Four Seasons and The Hay Adams are my favorite properties in DC.

If you need a club floor, doesn't Mandarin Oriental have one?

Washington D.C.

Hi Friends.
Anything new to report on in this part of the country? Running the Marine Corp marathon in a couple of weeks and prefer quiet.
- Are the FS rooms decrepit as some noted on TA ?
- Noise at Hay ?
Ritz Georgetown, Hay, Capella and FS look appealing.
Thanks.

FS is the best - very good service compared to the rest. Decrepit rooms? How long ago was that?

Personally I go for the RC Gtwon, though some here seem to be off it. It's a much more intimate hotel, and the staff have been wonderful to me over the years.

I want to check out the Capella but havne't done so yet. Hay is meh IMO, kinda tired. FS is usual FS chain blandness.

I just completed a 4 night stay here in DC, 2 at the RC Georgetown, and 2 at the RC Pentagon City. I know the Pentagon City location isn't beloved on this forum, but I had a pretty much impeccable stay.

Just finished 4 nights (4th night free) at the Ritz Carlton Washington DC. We were upgraded to a one bedroom suite.
Aside from a few adjustments to the room we were provided a $75.00 a day breakfast credit.
(trust me the credit was needed) anything else would't have cut it.
Service was over the top except one lounge waiter who didn't have his act together.

Would I stay again? If I had the same perks yes I would consider it.

My experience at the Park Hyatt was similar to FlyingDoctorwu, pretty subpar for a hotel that considers itself luxury. Was fine for a regular hotel, but not worth the price they charge. Furnishings old, bathroom not well cleaned at arrival, and I did not like the mattress at all. They did not look at my preferences or reservation comments despite me being platinum status. Service was marginal at the hotel, and poor at BDT. Wouldn't put it anywhere near the other hotels in this thread. Will not return for a paid stay.

Stayed at the Capella for one night this week. Booked a king superior room, but we were upgraded to the double queen superior room. The front desk person escorted us to our room, after asking another front desk attendant to see if the room was clean, yet, when we walked in, a man from housekeeping was trying to scrub the carpet clean near the door. After settling in the room, we found obnoxious stains between the 2 beds-- some dirt and some deeper it seems. We asked the front desk to have it cleaned while we were out, but when we returned the stains were still there. We called the front desk again, and they didn't know what was going on, so they would try to "figure it out." It became apparent then that the room was incorrigibly dark. There was only one window, and, even with all the lights on, the lighting was more like mood lighting than anything. An hour later, the front desk called to say that the housekeeping did in fact come but that the stains were an "overnight housekeeping issue," so we were upgraded to an executive suite. While an awesome upgrade, I could never imagine paying $2000 a night for it because quite honestly the suite felt very partitioned and small, and, also, there the furniture was a bit worn in some places. When we were at dinner at The Grill, a manager-type person, we never figured it out, came over and delivered a letter and apologized for the inconveniences. The letter referenced "this bottle of wine" and a "a free dessert." Never were these things found. Our wonderful waitress, however, tried to better the situation by comping our desserts and glasses of wine. Without her, I think the letter would have been meaningless. Overall, for one night, a lot of things went wrong, and, while I would maybe try it again, I don't know if I'd recommend it to my friends. After reading reviews talking about younger people who are eager to please describing the staff, I would agree but honestly with each attempt to rectify the situation not everything was delivered. I would probably try the FS next time.

Uck. I booked at the Capella for this week. Still outside of cancellation...the property doesn't sound up to snuff.

Surprised to hear the strong reviews of the PH. Maybe I switch to PH or FS? Thoughts?

PH is surprisingly good, and given rate differential vs FS, a pretty strong value choice. Location still a bit of a pain though, depending on what you are doing.

I wasn't impressed with the PH in the past, but after my last visit, I realized that that's because I was booking lead-in rooms (which are very average there).

On our last visit, we booked a corner Premier Park Deluxe View, and were very pleased with the value of the hotel, especially when compared to the rates at the FS/Capella.

We were later shown and offered an upgrade to a Parlor Suite, but frankly, I thought the layout of the Parlor Suite was a bit odd and we stuck with our room, which was practically a (very nice) junior suite.

Blue Duck Tavern is phenomenal for both breakfast and dinner; one of the best restaurants in DC.

Location might not be the greatest for everything (for example, it's terrible if you need to be on the Hill), but it sounds like NYBanker wants to be in Georgetown. For that, I think the PH is fantastic. It's an easy 15 minute walk (or slightly shorter ride) to anywhere on M street, and if you need to be up Wisconsin, it can actually be a bit closer (time-wise) in rush hour than many of the M street hotels, as you can cut around Reservoir Rd and beat a lot of the M/Wisconsin traffic.

FlyingDoctorWu stays here more often than I do (and his recommendation was the reason I tried it again), so perhaps he can add something here, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

From reading other review sites, Capella is generally getting very favorable reviews. Perhaps 5% are adverse exceptions, and those issues seemed to be in line with USAirElite's posted above. The vast majority were very positive....dare I say almost sounded Aman-ish in their quality.

I've got to be in a number of different spots both in and out of town, so I'm relatively
agnostic from a location perspective.

Whereas I was nervous after reading the earlier post, I think I'll stick with my booking. The upside/downside analysis seems in my favor. It is only one night...how bad could it be? (Famous last words. )
