Robyn, why are you second guessing whether someone stayed at a hotel or not?

I personally agree with GetSetJetSet. FS Tokyo is a decent hotel but the Pen wins in almost every category in my book.

I honestly think it's possible you didn't stay in a room at FSM. Although you might have tried the bar - and not found it to your liking (wouldn't disagree with that assessment). You can perhaps share with us the dates you stayed at the hotel - and what kind of room you had.

Note that I have no interest in this hotel - except as a guest. And don't care to see anyone dissing it without good cause. Robyn
It is not appropriate to ask posters for specific, personal information such as stay dates in a public forum.

If F&B and the public areas are not a factor for you I am confident that you will be pleased with your Premier room at FSM, which is more spacious than rooms at the Pen.

I do not believe anyone has "dissed" the hotel.

I would be interested in hearing Robyn's thoughts on the Pen, but it appears she is suspended.. We will have to wait then...

Yes, a very superfluous point! I am interested in hearing how the new FS M renovation is from Robyn.

Calm down, people, there is no need for any dissing of others to continue. Also, remember that FT terms of service prohibit discussion of moderation decisions.

Thanks,

F&B quality seems to have gone down, and I question management's decision to relocate the concierge/front reception to the ground floor. I hope this is a temporary move due to the renovation, because having these services on the seventh floor worked much better.

first real negatives for FS here

in terms of looking at blog - in another thread in luxury hotels forum, re another hotel, posted on same day, and would have been last post in that thread on jun 7 and 8 (which is when various posts were being posted) >

technically, when you said "at" you could have meant you visited hotel and did not stay. not the case, but theoretically could have been.

and you have told people to look at your blog.

that is all.

Yes, I referred people to finished write ups re. Delhi. I haven't cleared my backlog and gotten to the FSM yet, so nothing to direct to until it's sorted.

I personally think this thread should move beyond he said/she said regarding GetJetSet's one experience at FSM and his blog post...

The FSM is one of the top properties in Tokyo as Robyn pointed out and there are things to like about FSM over the Pen. I do prefer smaller properties and the Pen certainly is not.

The Aman Tokyo will soon make these both properties almost irrelevant.

sounds like both pen and FSM have slipped some, but FSM may have some actual "problems" (which are relative for tokyo and pen and FSM?) the two FSM service negatives were literally the first service negatives mentioned here. these two properties have been regarded in similar fashion as FS george v, actually even better, because george v has more negative comments, but then again more have stayed there. extremely well regarded properties in this forum.

unique offering of FS is meeting at both ends of NEX. someone posted that SL will escort to other trains.
(keep forgetting its no longer FS marunouchi, and now FS tokyo / FS... with chinzan-so dropped jan 1.)

i made one comment that had not already been made. in a post linking relevant FSM trip report.

I again make my perennial vote for the Okura. For many years the undisputed best hotel in the world, and still IMHO the best service of any city hotel to which I've ever been.

I have many fond memories of the Okura many years ago, but have since moved on... similarly with the Park Hyatt... Great hotels during their time but now, are vestiges of their former selves.

The Okura in summary....still the best service of any hotel, couple of really good restaurants (Orchid for Breakfast and Tokahlin), timeless and very serene lobby, great parking, poor public transport, small rooms.

At Okura, service is hardwired into the DNA, every place else it's training and IT.
