Majorca - new places to stay

Has anyone been to Son Brull or Cap Rocat? Love the design of both. Anywhere else new of note? La Residencia is starting to look a bit dated.

Or Can Simoneta?

Yes, stayed at Son Brull - a very attractive small hotel. Service can be a bit patchy, but then that is true of the island generally. A very 'cool' modern property though and definitely worth trying. Surrounding area is a bit dull, but nothing is too far if you hire a car.

I have looked at Cap Rocat, but not yet stayed. It looks fabulous and is definitely on my list.

La Residencia has some great newish suites at the top of the property, but the food, last time I stayed, was not good.

One of my favourites is Son Net - wonderful location and some really good accommodation, food etc.

Have stayed at Can Simoneta once in its first year after opening and loved it. Beautiful boutique hotel on a cliff with great ocean views and a good, initmate restaurant Majorcan style. A year later I stopped by for a coffee on the terrace but management had changed and seemed not very inviting but rather intimidating against non-resort guests. Still, I would go back anytime. It's not very far from the Park Hyatt site.

My other design boutique finca resort favs are

- Son Penya http://www.esturodesonpenya.com/
- Son Mas http://www.sonmas.com/en/index.html
- Son Gener http://www.songener.com/en/
- Can Verdera http://www.canverdera.com/index.php?id=1&L=1

Judging by the April 2010 shot in GE not much seem to have moved forward over the past three years...haven't heard anything about a new, revised opening date yet:

PH site: 39°40'9.13"N 3°26'4.24"E

Can Simoneta: 39°39'6.28"N 3°26'16.07"E

Son Gener: 39°38'58.37"N 3°21'4.20"E

Son Penya: 39°35'46.08"N 3°17'25.15"E

Son Mas: 39°31'40.04"N 3°16'46.53"E

Can Verdera: 39°46'55.24"N 2°44'23.69"E

Another boutique finca recommendation: Cas Xorc, http://www.casxorc.com/en/index.php I suppose it's this location: 39°46'17.19"N 2°40'34.57"E

Thank you - these all look superb. I'm trying to schedule a trip at some point over the summer and will report back.

just curious as to how you got on? Thinking about a break in majorca and am looking for inspiration....

I liked La Residencia in the newer suites at the top of the property. The surrounding town is nice, the views are nice, but I do agree with vuittonsofstyle the food is not great. There was a restaurant on the town that was quite good, but I cannot remember the name.

Once I stayed in an elegant small inn in the old part of Palma, several blocks from the water and from the castle in the direction of the airport. The place had a plunge pool in an old cellar, hot tubs or something on the roof, and ravishing public rooms where afternoon tea with the local special cake and sherry were served every day. Good personalized service. I must find the name.

I ended up going to Sicily instead. Friends stayed at my favourite Hospes Maricel last summer and said it had really gone downhill. Currently at Umaid Bhawan Palace. Astonishingly good!!

From what I hear, Hospes has had a hard time with the economic crisis (they sold Hospes Lancaster in Paris recently). I agree that Hospes Maricel has really deteriorated which is a great pity as it was at one time really good. Umaid Bhawan, on the other hand, is marvellous!!!

Stayed at the St. Regis. Seemed like a typical American resort hotel .....i.e. boring. Service was OK. Location and beach not great. Overall I did not find Majorca very appealing.

My mistake. It was the St. Regis. Corrected my post.
