Amanyara (Turks and Caicos)

I noticed that rates next January to May start from USD1600 (after the peak Christmas period, when they start at USD2050). Unless I am mistaken this is significantly above any of the other Amanresorts? Sounds a bit much, given the reviews are not always glowing. I guess they charge what they can get away with.

only aman besides puri like this.

yara does still have the free full board, and 7th nt free for villas.

puri only dropped rates this past summer, and after tsunami.

in turks & caicos - also note parrot cay's rates, and new less upscale verandah is only other option with villas.

You can stay at Amanpuri for USD850 even in high season (albeit in a no view pavilion)

youre not comparing thailand to turks and caicos are you?

and yes, i did not mention in last post about the recent pavilion change, breaking them down and adding lower base rates, and the just added pool pavilions (just added after more than 20 years, although i guess fair timeline would be trisara and other pool suites)

I think the pavilions have always been charged around those prices or lower. It was, at least, like this when I first went around 6 years ago.

You're right, of course, Thailand has always been better value than the Caribbean.

I don't see free board for the spring... http://www.amanresorts.com/amanyara/exclusives.aspx only breakfast and dinner in the fall.

Amanyara food is the most expensive of any Aman I've stayed at.

Big difference in costs between a resort that has to fly all its food in and one that can buy from local farmers. Also staff costs must be pretty high at Amanyara.

Costs were much lower at Amanpulo (also has to fly everything in). Even by "expensive resort levels" (like Tahiti), I thought the prices were ridiculous

Amanyara is one of the few resorts where we knowingly booked during the off season.

Hurricane season (Caribbean) does not bother us so much as rainy/monsoon season (Asia) since a hurricane is an every-once-in-a-while occurrence whereas the rainy season can affect every day of a trip. We also assumed that if a hurricane was in the forecast we would have a few days warning and would be able to postpone our trip...that Aman would be kind enough to credit us toward a future stay.

I know, but costs are much lower in the Philippines than Caribbean.

What's the best time to go to Amanyara? I would hate to go to a beach destination and it feel to cool to enjoy it. On the other hand I don't want it to be unbearable hot either. Would March be warm enough to enjoy the ocean & pool without it feeling nippy?

Are there any activities/excursions that are fun and a must-do?

I was thinking of reserving Pavilion 115 which I heard is a little more private.
Does anyone have a favored ocean pavilion in case it's not available.
Your insight is appreciated.

Spring would be a lovely time for weather...nice temp but no hurricanes yet. I have a detailed trip report on this forum which would answer some of your questions if you want to search it out.
