Hong Kong hotel recommendations
 

I am planning a summer holiday to Hong Kong in August. There are two hotels that I like...

Grand Hyatt Hong Kong - I like the spectacular sea view, but is slightly off from major spots. This hotel is now having a limited time offer 20% off, from US$268

Conrad Hong Kong - Though the view is not as good as Grand Hyatt, it is located in Pacific Place, a great choice for shopping :) This hotel is now having a getaway promotion 30% off, from US$329

Anyone can give me some advices?

If given only two choices above, I would take Conrad. Especially if you have status with Hilton (upgrade and free breakfast). I have stayed at both, plus Marriott, Shangri-la (HK and Kowloon), Renaissance (HK and Kowloon), Sheraton, Peninsula ...etc. All have great view BUT the bestest most spectacular one goes to The Intercontinental. My all time favourite hotel in the world, so far.

August in Hong Kong...you should be able to do better than that, I'd think. Have you tried AsiaRooms.com? The best views are from Tsim Sha Tsui, and both of your hotels are on the Island.

If they were the same price I'd go with the Conrad, but they're not, so I'd go with Grand Hyatt. Your post is a little unclear as to whether the discount is already reflected in the price, however.

I still think there's a better deal out there for you.

I noticed that both of the hotels you mentioned are on the Island. Is that your preference?

I searched it via Expedia.com, these are the lowest rate I can get with them during my travel dates.
I will join my friend living in Hong Kong Island side in this vacation. It would be better if I can stay at a place closer to her.

I'm currently at the GH HKG staying on free night awards. As a Hyatt Diamond, you're treated quite well. I've got a nice harbor view, free lounge access, free internet, etc.

Considering that I paid about $80 per "free" night by staying at cheap HP's in the US, plus I got a bunch of AA miles too, it's a superb deal.

I also like the IC Grand Stanford. Again as a RA, I can get free club access and such, even on cheap rates. I had absolutely great service at the club on my last trip there, and will be heading back over the weekend.

Without status, it makes it a lot harder. I know I'd pay about $600 US per night for my Hyatt stay that I'm currently on. I'd be hard pressed to pay that much outright.

Perhaps the OP would consider the Island Shangri-La, or more highly recommended here on this forum are the Landmark Mandarin Oriental, the Mandarin Oriental, and the Four Seasons.

I am in GH HKG tonight as well. The lounge staffs are very friendly and finally they put LCD TV in the room. Without Diamond status I won't recommend GH.

I think that the Suite Life rates at the Peninsula for the Superior and Deluxe Harbour View suites seem to be by far the best deal at the moment. The reservations department at the Pen sometimes allows back to back suite life bookings for longer stays.

Time permitting I would split the stay between the Peninsula and either the Mandarin Oriental or the Four Seasons. The Virtuoso offer for a confirmed double upgrade from a Harbour View room to a Deluxe Suite at Mandarin Oriental sounds very good.

You should realize that the GH and Conrad aren't really luxury properties, even though their HK versions are clearly better than the typical hotels in these chains.

Although the IC has the views, I love the Peninsula, especially if you get a waterview room/suite on an upper floor of the old building. Both are a short walk from the Star Ferry.

Until the new Ritz Carlton opens end of this year, the contenders for truely luxurious properties in HK are still limited to the usual suspects, ie FS, LMO, MO and Pen.

GH and Conrad are what I would call business hotel with added luxury touch.
