Hi all,

I am a frequent traveller located in Cape Town, South Africa and have worked in hospitality for 20 years before moving to a new career in Digital Field Marketing.

Would like to introduce myself and hear more about what kind of discussions happen here and where possible to provide input based on experience "from the other side" as a former hotelier.

Cool, thanks!

FS Beirut for sale

I haven't been following this, but with the news from Saudi I would expect a lot more FS hotels will be sold soon, eh? Is this the first one?

most sold before.. 2011 financials >
alwaleed tried to sell 78% marrakech 19% paris (under kingdom hotels)
(at the time 55% damascus and 57% beirut, both now sold)
+ 75% stake in paris (under kingdom holding)
+ 47.5% stake in suspended FS agadir taghazout moroco
so 2 - paris, marrakech

he sold all other FS including new toronto and langkawi
cant recall re mauritius for example, but also others

anyone know co owner of damascus?
not trophy, but clearly very valuable
with paris trophy and marrakech want to sell

Kingdom Holding apparently differentiates between trophy properties (George V), which are not for sale and then other development projects they construct and hope to turn around as quickly as possible (Marrakech, Beirut). But surely, depending on the price, more or less everything is for sale.

Marrakech has had a hugely successful year thanks to Blaise Montandon -- would hate to see it up for sale, as there is always risk involved.

Looking for some advice, as we are currently planning a trip mid of March to Singapore/Kuala Lumpur/Langkawi.

reading through some threads here, most of you seem very unhappy with the quality of luxury hotels in Singapore & KL. we are thinking of the following:

3 nights Singapore at either MO or RC (we definitely want the view to Marina Bay Sands) - or other suggestions?
2 nights KL (is that enough? Couldn't figure out too many things to see and 1,5 days should be enough I guess) at either MO or RC (we want the view to the Petronas towers)
5 nights on Langkawi, currently highly interested at the RC, but what other options to consider? Except FS, where we don't want to stay.

thanks for sharing some feedback

Everyone has their opinions. I go to these places very often and have always enjoyed a Club Suite at the MO Singapore. Which does have great views of the MB Sands. The MO KL was supposedly renovated. In any case a Club Suite there is good too. But I hear the new St. Regis in KL is excellent. I stayed at the St. Regis in Langkawi which opened last year. It's also an excellent property. The only issue I have with hotels in Singapore and KL is the experience of the staff. Very few of them can stand next to luxury staff in Euro hotels, but still they try hard and you just have to accept things are they way they are. And that's also why you should make sure you have club access in Singapore and KL. The Club is where you will find the most experienced staff.

Sad news for me but a nice cancellation notice:

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Lewark,

I regret to inform you that we have to close the Ranch after mandatory evacuation in Santa Barbara due to the Thomas Fire.

The firefighters made held their ground at the Ranch and while our cottages were protected many were sprayed with thermal gel when the fire came down the hillside. This will require a much longer process to clean and repair thus we will likely be closed through the end of January.

I hope this email finds you well and you are able to change your plans accordingly. We will of course be returning your deposit to you.

At this time we have had many days with bad air quality and I would suggest looking outside of Santa Barbara county until our air quality is repaired.

Perhaps north above Solvang or south below Malibu would have better atmosphere and be out of the direct smoke and wind blown ash areas.

Please take care and we hope to welcome you to the Ranch in the future.

Thank you and best regards,
Vanessa Kolk Guest Services Manager

Repairing to the Peninsula Beverly Hills instead -- a villa jacuzzi suite. Museums and music, assuming something fetching at the Philharmonic.
