Unless there's a very specific reason you picked this one, and if you can still make any changes, I'd recommend swapping it out for the other Shangri-La (Rasa Ria). Far nicer property with a much nicer beach.

It's just a very brief 1-night stay before taking the flight the next morning from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu (then onwards to Borneo Rainforest Lodge.)

If we had more than a day in KK, I would've definitely chosen to stay at SL Rasa Ria. But SL Tanjung Aru is a very convenient 10-minute drive from KK Airport, which is why it's the best choice for us this time.

Next weekend...
Four Seasons, Prague
Cheval Blanc Randehli
Velaa
Soneva Jani

I've not booked a return flight from the Maldives, as we may decide last minute to try out a few properties closer to the mainland via boat, such as Gili Lankanfushi and revisit Huvafen Fushi to see if it's actually as good as I remember. I stayed prior to really getting into luxury travel, so I suspect I'll have a very different opinion of it now.

Still lamenting the lack of air con in all park accommodations. It’s a conspiracy.

Phew, Farbster, epic report with lots to absorb. The ship looks spectacular, bigger than our usual thing, but the itinerary did it for us. We are on the September sailing.

Which ship do you like that is smaller? This is far smaller than the mass market ships, but a little larger than some. We've done the Wind/Cloud/Whisper and really enjoyed those small ships.

Yes the hotel has Club Tropezina. Don’t think it’s on par with the likes of Club 55 but nice to have as an option.

The best option I can think of that’s right on the beach is La Residence de la Pinede. Lovely restaurant but rather boring pool.

Your post was the exact reason I was able to get the Presidential Suite. If it wasn't for you, I never would've called them up and inquired about it.... a mere 2 weeks before arrival!

Thanks a ton. I'll make sure to take some pics of the Suite.
