For those who might care, here are our two best shots of the total solar eclipse from Temperance Hill Vineyard between Bethel Heights Vineyard and Cristom Vineyards, just outside Salem, Oregon.

It was even more amazing to see in person than I had expected. And I expected a lot!

Reviews for both The Nines and The Allison Inn and Spa are forthcoming.

Unfortunately my daughter is only 2 and Marquesa has a minimum age requirement (14). That's also the reason we're not staying at Little Palm Island.

As you say, I'm sure we will survive. However, after 3 weeks on the Côte d'Azur it may come as somewhat of a shock!

I didn't even ask. After a bit of research about the property it did seem a bit like a couple's retreat. The last thing I would want to do is upset another guest who had been looking forward to a peaceful stay. Our daughter is very well behaved but she's still a 2 year old. So we booked the Ocean Key instead.

I'm soon off to Paris to visit a dear, old friend named Crillon.

I have my usual bunch of assorted business & leisure trips coming up over the next few months; but, I am really excited for my first visit this February to Cluj-Napoca. The purpose is to tour a communist era paintbrush factory and I am beside myself with glee! I shall explain...

I am an amateur collector of contemporary paintings. I'm certainly no Leo & Gertrude Stein but, like them, the walls of my home are covered with paintings I have cheaply picked up through my 35 years of traveling. The Paintbrush Factory in Cluj is home to a bountiful number of artists and I am excited at the prospect of adding to my collection. Please forgive this needlessly long explanation, but I am truly excited. Oh, and I'll be staying at the Doubletree by Hilton, which apparently is what Cluj passes off as luxury accommodation.

Was thinking of Paris , Crillon , for next month but my " Parisian " friends warned me about strikes so we will hold for another time
Do report back .

Excited for you too !

Looking forward to your trip report on Cluj-Napoca and findings ..

The cookies at Doubletree by Hilton receptions are really good , may qualify them as ' luxury '

Always stay at the Intercon in Osaka these days. Easy walk to Umeda with lots of trains, shops and restaurants. Yodobashi is also close-by as I plan on buying some camera equipments for another photo trip.

Touzentei looks interesting as I like small homey types of restaurants. You seem to like tempura? Tempura Matsu in Kyoto is fantastic and it offers good dishes other than tempura. In Osaka, Ippoh is over 100 years old and feels like dining in a rich friend's home with great food as well
