Hi guys, currently in transit in FRA and slightly confused as to how I’ve managed to not pass immigration.
Arrived Ex EDI on LH963. Originally planned for a B25 arrival, however there was a 90 min delay caused by snow at FRA and I’m assuming this is the likely reason for the change to arrival gate. We parked up on a remote stand and were bused, very efficiently, to a door labelled as A-EUW, passed through the door, up an escalator and out into gate A8. Slightly confused as I thought the A gates were all inside Schengen? Whereas EDI is mostly definitely non-Schengen. Followed signs for Z gates up an escalator and am now in the senator lounge opposite the corridor for Z50 to Z69. Unbelievably efficient transfer, just under 20 mins from arrival on bus gate to the lounge. Does A8 provide some sort of express channel for UK arrivals?

'AEUW' is a bus arrival area in Terminal 1A which allows passengers from 'clean' non-Schengen countries (such as the US and UK) to enter secure area of the terminal and is mostly used for arrivals from LHR and MAN in the morning. AEUW actually uses A7-A10 which are normally Schengen bus departure gates located opposite A non-Schengen bus arrival gates (ANS).

A google search on "A-EUW" led me to a thread on airliners.net, which in turn linked back to the first post in this thread:

Thanks! Yes in the Z senator lounge, And thanks to Airborne Locksmith for clarifying. Very smooth transit indeed.

I think I’m convinced now to switch from one world to Star Alliance. Had already switched my Athens trips to Aegean.

I think I should run through this thread to get some advice on a tight 75 min connection AMS-FRA-IAD-FLL. UA award tickets. AMS-FRA on LH, FRA-IAD-FLL on UA.
Originally we had a AMS-FRA-EWR-FLL itinerary that left AMS in the evening on LH, required an overnight hotel at FRA (booked a Hyatt Place at Gateway Gardens), for a 12 noon departure FRA-EWR on UA.business. Then I saw the current itinerary became available to book with saver miles. Departing AMS-FRA on the same date of the original itinerary after the overnight layover at FRA, and is on LH J, then connecting to UA FRA-IAD... In the excitement of seeing the overnight stay at FRA was eliminated, I went ahead to make the change of the old itinerary to the new one...
Then I realize that the AMS-FRA-IAD has only 75 min connection at FRA.
I understand the "legal" MCT on this itinerary is 45 min... Of course a lot of this depends on which gate the AMS-FRA arrives, and the morning madness at FRA. We also need to go thru passport control when exit Schengan area to UA's USA departure gate which we believe is at Z gates.
I have no clue on how the transfer procedure is at FRA. Definitely would appreciate some explanation on usually how that works.
Also anyone has ideas on which gate the LH AMS flight normally arrives? That would determine whether the transfer is relatively straight forward or not, after reading multiple pages backward on this thread. Do we stay at Air Side during the transit to Z gate?
Can the experts provide some insights as to what kind of scenarios could happen on this itinerary?
Thank you everyone who would chime in.

LH’s flight status page lists departure and arrival gates of flights in the last day or two but all recent AMS-FRA flights just have Area A as the arrival gate which suggest they were remote stand arrivals. If a remote stand arrival you will have to add the time to be taken to the terminal by bus. On the other hand UA988 appears to be about one hour late departing everyday for the last week or so.
You will have to go through exit passport control (but no security ) in FRA and further passport check near the departure gate. According to Frankfurt Airport’s website UA988 in the last few cays departed from Z18, 20 and 22, which are not too far to walk from passport control.
75 mins should normally be just enough for an A to Z connection if the incoming flight is not late. You will have to hope UA988 will be late departing on your day of travel. I suspect late departures are due to late arrivals of connecting passengers.

There is another UA flight from FRA to IAD 4 hours later. I really dont care which US entry points UA would put us to IF we unfortunately miss our original flight, as long as UA still accommodate us in business class. I wonder has UA resumed its Transfer Desk at FRA Air Side or still directing misconnected passengers to the Check In counters at B Hall? By May they should be in normal operation I hope, after all FRA is a main hub for UA in Europe.
Thank you very much for the details.
From A to Z, what is the path?
I read back pages on the FRA connection threads in both UA and LH, it seems it is quite easy to make a erroneous turn, then inadvertently go thru the double glass doors and unfortunately exit to the land side. I want to learn the little things to pay attention to so not to make such mistakes.

LH Guide Service at FRA
Although I know the FRA airport well, I've often used the LH Guide Service for FRA connections just to avoid the (often) huge line for Schengen immigration, after a long TATL from California. It's worth the 75 Euro fee to avoid standing in line for an hour or more, after a night with no sleep. For more than a year now the relevant LH web page says "not offered due to current conditions" which I suppose refers to Covid. But of course traffic is almost back to normal, and the service IS offered at MUC.
Does anyone have any further info? I'm beginning to wonder if they've just stopped updating that web page!

Consider signing up for Easy-Pass RTP (Registered Traveler Program). It's free, and will allow you to use the e-gates at passport control instead of the "all passports" line.

Connecting from LH SZG-FRA to SQ25 FRA-SIN in Business Class. 5 hours layover during morning. I checked LH website about lounge options but it shows quite many LH lounges, plus there are probably more *A lounges which I could also use…
Please kindly advise which lounge would be the best one (assuming good showers, various food and nice decor/ambience would be the key factors for a good time there). Many thanks for your recommendation!
