Thank you. In June, this is via the bus between Z11 <> B58? On my return, flying IST-FRA on TK and connecting to UA, will I arrive into the airside area of B or into an arrivals/landside area where I have to reclear security for an international (Z) departure?

115 minutes is highly enough to use the Skyline path from Z to B and I would not consider this as a short connection. You would even have a minimum of 30 minutes to waste in the B concourse.
Thank you.

The B<->Z shuttle is not running due to the pandemic, both ways.
oliver2002 mentioned that a B<->Z transfer is possible without issues using the SkyTrain.

Also as Turkey is not considered as a safe arrival, you would need to reclear security at FRA in any circumstance for your onward flight to the USA.

What can I expect on my transit in FRA next Saturday June 12?
arrive from UA 46 IAH-FRA at 12:20pm in business and depart on LH 570 FRA-WDH at 9:50 pm in business. I have a 9 hour layover. I know I cannot leave the airport and I will spend the time in the LH lounges. I may spend half the time in both.
What terminal will I arrive at and what terminal will I depart from? How will I move between the different terminals? I have never transmitted in FRA before.

Your United flight would arrive at Terminal 1Z.
Your Lufthansa flight would depart from Terminal 1B or Terminal 1Z. There is no way to learn this in advance as the gates are randomly assigned at FRA.

If you need to connect between Terminal 1Z & 1B, just follow the signs if you are not familiar with the airport. You would need to take the SkyLine ( air train ) between those concourses and the signs should lead you to the appropriate concourses.

Flying SFO->FRA on UA, connecting on same ticket to LH FRA->SOF. We are fully vaccinated but not admissible to Germany under current rules (USA citizens, tourism). It appears the LH SOF flights customarily depart the Z gates (Bulgaria is non-Schengen) and the UA flight customarily arrives at one of the A20-ish gates. We need to stay in the transit area for this to work, but my understanding is that the Frankfurt A gates serve Schengen departures. Can non-Schengen arrivals to A transit to Z without passport control?

Your UA flight would arrive at a Z gate.
As A and Z gates share the same parking position, the name of the parking stand is named under the letter "A" and you would be released to the upper level which is the Z level.
Your connection would be a Z->Z or a Z->B connection.

One exception is that "ANS" is the name of the bus arrivals position of non-Schengen arrivals at Z but still, you would be able to go to the Z departures area without clearing passport control.

UA flights do not arrive at A gates which are Schengen gates. UA refers to Z gates where their flights arrive as A gates (they are actually the same gate positions; Z gates are immediately above A gates with the same gate number). If your SOF flight departs from a Z gate you can remain in the same concourse where you arrive and go to your departure gate without having to clear security or passport control. If your SOF flight departs from a B gate you will have to clear transfer security but you can still move from Z to B without having to enter Germany/Schengen.

Thanks for the clarification. I was relying on the United app for the arrival gate, and it's not surprising their coding is slightly off given FRA's unique two level configuration.

B Non Schengen -> A Schengen

Hey, new here.

I’m connecting at FRA from B22A to A40. Based on the couple of original posts in this thread, it seems like it should be possible to use the AB tunnel to only clear security once.

However, in using the Lufthansa interactive maps I couldn’t find routings that didn’t go through security 2 or 3 times. The default routing uses the train with 2 security checkpoints, while going to B13 (for the tunnel) requires a number of security checkpoints before you get there.

Would appreciate if anyone can share a routing that only has one security check (multiple passport controls are fine as we’ll use the EU gates).

thanks!

Hi julianschiavo and welcome to FlyerTalk!

If you're arriving to B22 and transferring to A40, there is no way that you could skip security.
The Skyline route does not involve double security, you just board the train, go through security and passport control once you arrive at A.
If you really want to use the tunnel, follow the signs for baggage claim, clear passport control, exit from B baggage claim, go upstairs then clear security at B gates and use the tunnel.

However, if you are not familiar with FRA, it's highly advised that you follow the signposted routes.

Thanks for your help ISTFlyer! Just to clarify, I know I can’t skip security, it’s more about avoiding a double security checkpoint.

The Lufthansa map routes through 2 security checkpoints (when selecting B22->A40 directions); is there a different way to what’s suggested in the app that will skip one of those checkpoints? (Tried to upload a screenshot of the 2 checkpoints, but alas, I couldn’t as I’m new)

Also, do you happen to know how long the connection should take? The app says an hour which seems long to me, but I haven’t gone through FRA in recent times.

thanks again

Connections in FRA continue to be horrible, arrived in Z non Schengen & had to depart in B non Schengen, the distances you have to walk are ludicrous, winding your way around Z to take the train to B & this in an almost empty airport, FRAPORT just organise things to put people off transiting there

I took a look at the map but it looks ok to me. You exit the secure area in B, go to the Skyrail, when you are off the train you first pass through security into Z and then use one of the passport controls (directly below or further out the A arm) to enter A.

Also, do you happen to know how long the connection should take? The app says an hour which seems long to me, but I haven’t gone through FRA in recent times.

It's security and passport control on top of one the furthest away B gates to the furthest away A gate. An hour would be the upper limit of what it would take (slow walking, queues at security and passport controls)

My suggestion would be to ignore the app and follow the signs; the signs should lead you through a path where single security is involved. Just follow signs for A gates after you park at gate B22. It's not worth creating an attraction if you are not familiar with FRA.

Without any wait, the connection could be doable within 10-15 minutes, however, you would need to add the wait times for security and passport control. As you are an EU citizen passport control shouldn't take long and but I can't comment on security.
