I'll merge this thread with the FRA beginners guide. You'll find more information how to navigate your way through FRA and which lounge to choose.

As totti has pointed out the Denver flight seems to have departed from C15 yesterday and today and is departing from an A gate tomorrow (Monday).

I wanted to visit the Tower Lounge when I was connecting from non-Schengen (UK) to Schengen (Germany) and had about 4 hours to spare. Instead of the usual bus gate my flight arrived at a lower C gate so I got on the SkyLine train to A. Coming off the SkyLine train there was security check and I told them I wanted to visit the lounge by A65. After checking with a supervisor(?) they let me through. They didn't ask where I was flying to but I obviously came from non-Schengen and was staying in non-Schengen to visit the Tower Lounge. During the day when there are US bound flights they seem to be a little fussy about who they let into the non-Schengen A pier.

If you are arriving from Schengen you can go up to the non-Schengen A pier by an elevator close to A25 and through passport control, or if you are coming from non-Schengen you can take the SkyLine train from the B/C stop and go to A. If the Denver flight is departing from an A gate there's no problem, if it's departing form B or C security may or may not let you into A pier. If they don't let you through you can always go back on the SkyLine train to B/C.

The Tower Lounge has more interesting views than other lounges and has a better selection of food than the Business lounges.

Thanks for the information.

If it departs from the C concourse I will probably use the Senator Lounge there, as it sounds quite good.

Otherwise may try to get to trhe Tower lounge.

Lax-Fra-Bud- Customs

My understanding is that passengers are processed in Frankfurt for connecting flights to Budapest ( formerly it was transit ), if this is correct how efficient is Frankfurt with their customs processing? my Lufthansa flight arrives at FRA 1530 & leaves for BUD at 1710.

Lufthansa is the carrier for both flights.

Well doable. Your luggage will be checked thru to BUD, so customs can actually stop you there (probably won't) as it will have no intra-EU green striped label, but the generic white one, indicating out-of-EU origin.

When connecting from a non-Schengen country to a Schengen country, customs only check (if at all!) carry-on baggage as checked-in baggage goes through customs at the final destination. You'll have to go through immigration at FRA which takes longer than customs but compared with some countries it's a breeze. 1 hr 40 mins should be more than enough.

I am an idiot, I meant immigration not customs.Last time I went to Hungary (2004) the immigration check was done in Budapest & the connecting city FRA was just a transit change - no immigration check there, apparently this has changed - you actually are required to pass through immigration at FRA & there will be no immigration check at BUD.

That's correct. Hungary joined the Schengen zone on 1 January 2008, so when you went there last you transited through FRA and went through immigration at BUD. Now that Hungary is a Schengen country you go through immigration at FRA and the FRA-BUD flight is treated like a domestic flight.

Going from PHL-FRA to CPH, on LH do I go through immigration in FRA or just security between arrival and departure gates? I'm not conversant with the political words like "schengen" and who's part of it I'm just a tourist.

Obviously with tight connection times I would prefer to do customs and immigration only at the end of my flight in CPH. However being forewarned is second best

Last year when I transited FRA using UAL on my way to GVE it was breeze (also had 3 hours to spend in the business lounge)

Since CPH (or Denmark) is in the Schengen zone, FRA-CPH flights are treated as 'domestic' flights. You go through immigration at FRA but it's a breeze if you hold a US passport or a passport from one of the countries which do not require a visa to enter the Schengen area. It's not like entering the US for non-US passport holders.

Since GVA (you peobably meant GVA, Switzerland, rather than GVE - Gordonsville, Va.) was not in the Schengen area last year you probably didn't go through immigration at FRA, but going through immigration shouldn't add very much to the time it takes to get to your departure gate.

Information ahout the Schengen Area.

Thanks, I will remember this hint
You go through immigration at FRA but it's a breeze
.

And, now I know that the word Schengen is the name of a city (where a treaty was signed) and not some german word with an English meaning. Of course I can never keep up with the member states. Do the airport signs direct you by using the word Schengen and non-Schengen (meaning you need to know who is or isn't a member) or can I expect gate assignment boards to suffice? Remember on a tight connection I can't afford to make a mistake and end up outside of the fastest path.

You don't need to know if your destination is Schengen or non-Schengen.

Just remember one thing: 'Follow the signs to your departure gate'. The signs will take you through the appropriate route (in your case through immigration as you will be entering Germany and the Schengen area) and you won't see the word 'Schengen' anywhere. What you do see at immigration are separate counters for EU and non-EU passport holders. If you hold an EU passport you can join whichever line that's shortest. If you hold a non-EU passport you have to join one of the non-EU lines.

I was once in an EU line and a young couple from one of the newer EU countries took ages to get through immigration it would have been quicker to join one of the non-EU lines.

P.S. Immigration/passport control counters are actually marked "EU/EWR/CH citizens" or "All passports". So strictly speaking the former is for holders of passports of EU and European Economic Area (Europäischer Wirtschaftsraum) countries and Switzerland. Anyone can use the latter.

Airtrain

When coming from C and connecting to A the airtrain is an option.

I used it to get to from C Non-Schengen to A Non-Schengen and was quite lucky with the lines infront the sec check at A.

There is a passport control to the right side of the escalators which are leading up to the non-schengen airtrain's carriage stop at B/C. If I pass through there can I then access the schengen carriages?

I am looking for some advise on a connection which was booked for me by Aeroplan.

We are returning on a Saturday from VCE to FRA on LH4085, connecting to AC877, FRA to YYZ. The connection time is 45 minutes. We are travelling in J.

The connection seems a bit tight but, not knowing FRA, it may be fine if we don't have to change terminals or go through security.

Thanks for your informed thoughts!
