I had a rather long connection at FRA today, arriving at A19 and departing from B12.
I went through the tunnel and passport control (but not through security) to get to the SEN lounge next to gate B42 because they make fresh decaf cappuccinos (I have only been at FRA a few times, but learned this much).
I asked the lounge agent if gate B12 was far away and if I would have to go through security again: “No, not at all, it’s just on the other side of the food court, there’s no security control” - and she pointed back to where I had just come from.
Anyway, after some time in the lounge, I try to walk to my gate. Unfortunately I followed the signs, which led me up to the second floor - and then out of the security area. So of course I had to go through security again, and there were loooooong lines and no fast track (I ended up finding proper B security, where they did have a fast track in the end).
But I am wondering, was what the lady told me just wrong?
Or could I have walked from B42 to B12 without going through security, only going through passport control?

I'm sure airport employees including lounge agents have different routes between the two areas and are probably not aware of the route passengers have to follow.
I didn't know fresh decaf cappuccino was only available in the B42 SEN lounge. IIRC there is a barista in the A26 Business Lounge. I wonder if they also serve fresh decaf cappuccino.

My flight arrives from the US, so is supposed to be "clean". It is expected to arrive at B26A. My connecting flight leaves from A19.
Do I remember correctly that only those US flights arriving in the A and Z piers let pax out to the departure level, allowing for connections without having to go through security again? Or is there a way to avoid security when arriving in B and connecting from A? I don't think there was but things may have changed since last time.
I wonder what gets me into a shower faster, walking to the A lounge or to the FCT. If there is security involved, FCT should be faster. If not, the FCL in A is faster. After that, it all depends how much wait time there is for the showers (no idea if FCT or FCL A is better)

No, you couldn't have gone from B42 to B12 without going through security. I believe the lounge agent was mistaken. Gate B12 is indeed not far from the central area of non-Schengen B departures but passport control checkpoints between the two areas are oneway only from Schengen to non-Schengen.
But as I went through that corridor (with security control on my left-hand side behind a glass wall), I noticed an open door on my right-hand side. There was a sign next to it, I think it might have read "Schengen West", but I'm not sure. I also think there were stairs behind it. Do you know where that would have led me? Or was that only for authorized personnel?
When I realized I was about to leave the security area, I tried to turn back and check that door, but someone from security stopped me and told me that I wasn't allowed to walk into that direction. Turned out she thought I had entered from the terminal without going through security, which was why she didn't even want to listen to my explanation, but instead just shoved me out, shouting at her colleague to better watch the door...
I didn't see a barista there, though.

No, because the passport checkpoints are only for Schengen > non-Schengen.
If you went down a short escalator after passport control in B, there used to be security check on your right at the bottom (where you now have to turn left). When the check point was open it led you to the tunnel and back to A. But the check point has been closed for many years now.
You probably went to the Schengen Business lounge near gate A13. There is another Business lounge above A25 which used to be the First Class Lounge. It has retained some of the old features including a bar counter at least last time I was there.
Yeah, that's where I went. And I'd been there before, that's why I asked the lounge agent if there was a way to get to B12 without passing through security again... And during peak hours there are always long lines at the security control next to that exit, even having fast-track access doesn't help.
But as I went through that corridor (with security control on my left-hand side behind a glass wall), I noticed an open door on my right-hand side. There was a sign next to it, I think it might have read "Schengen West", but I'm not sure. I also think there were stairs behind it. Do you know where that would have led me? I first tried to access the Business lounge, but the agent suggested I go to the Schengen SEN lounge instead (I guess both lounges were in the A gate area), as she said it's "much nicer."

I went only to SEN lounges, not business lounges. But it's good to know that there is no way to get back to the Schengen area from the non-Schengen area, without going through security again. Thanks!

FRA Connection Time
I am planning a trip on LH in J, from USA - FRA - CDG. Is 1hr 15m enough connection time in FRA to go through passport control and security? UA 1K if that helps...

If your flight arrives early or on time you should have enough time for this connection even if there is a queue at passport control. Provided you are on one ticket they will rebook you on the next available flight to CDG should you miss your connection.

Flights from the US usually arrive in Z and you only need to clear passport control and no security for connecting to a Schengen flight departing from an A gate. However, if your flight unfortunately arrives in B or C, which sometimes happens, you will have to clear passport control and security.
If your flight arrives early or on time you should have enough time for this connection even if there is a queue at passport control. Provided you are on one ticket they will rebook you on the next available flight to CDG should you miss your connection.

Hi! I searched and did not find an answer to this. What qualifies a passenger to use the "Fast Lane" for passport control? I have an upcoming flight CDG-FRA-LAX with a tight 1h15m connection. I assume this is tight enough our flight to LAX will be boarding as we make it to passport control outside of the Z gates - will we be able to take advantage of the Fast Lane? Thank you!

Thank you for clarifying! Is there anything we can or should do to expedite our transfer? We are not EU passport holders, unfortunately.
