No Meal in C (J) ATH-MUC?
I looked at some of the existing meal threads but didn't find an answer.
We're flying LH3389 ATH-MUC in business, departing 13:10, arriving 14:35, flight time of 2:25.
I looked at the LH site and found this:
Menus on long European routes
On long flights within Europe, such as to Athens or Moscow, with a flight time longer than two and a half hours, we serve our Business Class passengers with themed culinary delicacies on stylish china.
A menu is handed out on board immediately after take-off with details of the dishes of the day. For the hot main meal you have a choice of two or three dishes, including a meat and vegetarian or fish option.
But our flight is less that 2:30, so I thought this would apply:
If a European flight lasts up to two and a half hours, such as to Barcelona or Paris for example, Business Class passengers can look forward to menus consisting of a selection of cold dishes, served on stylish china. In addition, our concept 'Discover Flavour' invites you on every occasion to discover new themes and ingredients.
So I called LH to see what we would get and was told no meal service on this flight, only snacks. Is this true? Is the flight time outside of a standard LH meal time or has LH cut back on meal offerings? TIA.

I´m pretty confident that you´ll get the full european meal service.
Last time I was on ATH-MUC we had the full dinner for sure. All carriers (including LX or OS) are serving a warm meal on their ATH flights and I don´t believe that LH will start to differentiate between MUC and FRA flights from a airport like ATH.

ATH and HEL are examples of routes where LH serves warm meals in both C and Y due to the competition offering a similar warm meal. This is inspite of the flight time being <150/180 mins in C/Y.

Question is, if LH really cares about the competition or if they simply serve a hot meal, because they have always done it and did not bleed so badly yet, that they had to cut it playing exactly by the rules. At least on many other routes, they could not care less what the competition is doing and play their own game....as sad as it is.

When they cut the meals (in 2004?) they made sure the only sectors on which the meals stayed where it made sense due to competitive reasons. FRA/MUC-ARN for example had a cold cut plate in Y and warm meal in C before the reductions to the legendary sandwich. The HEL, ATH and SVO/DME route is exactly the same travel time and distance and ATH is definitely low(er) yield than the Stockholm route. Because there is no real competition, ARN now gets cold plate in C, sandwich in Y.
