That would work ... if there wouldn't be this little sentence written in bold under the offer:

"Zeitungs-/Rechnungsempfänger und Karteninhaber müssen identisch sein."

Doesn't look like they support "Geschenkabos", but not sure how strikt they are about this.

One more thing I just remembered - you can subscribe The Economist to any address you want (ie. outside Germany) and get up to 5k miles, depending on the length of your subscription. And a damn good magazine, too
