Missed flight due to strike - compensation?
 

My dad had to change his flight home from Finland because of a strike. THe Finland-FRA-EWR flight to be rescheduled for a day later. I am trying to figure out if this counts as cancellation due to something in the airlines control. Is he entitled to compensation from lufthansa?

Unfortunately there's litle to none compensation possible. According to German law, strike is not under control of an airline. I'd say your dad could be happy to got rebooked with one day delay. Could have come worth (total cancellation and refunding ticket price). Did he have any kind of expenses du to that rebooking (hotel etc)?

Yea, there were some standard expenses due to rebooking. It wass great that the strike didn't make things even worse than a 1 day delay and I am grateful for that. Still, if he is due compensation I would be a fool not to ask.

Especially because several of his friends reallly want to go to oktoberfest this year, and a voucher would help pay for their tickets. Munich has an even more authentic Hofbrauhaus than Las Vegas

Standard way if you feel the need to get this checked is: check the website of the LBA with Air Passenger Rights. File a claim online (you can fax the form later, so easy and fast).

There are many people claiming (and some organisations supporting the view) that strike by the airline employees is something the airline has control over it, therefor passengers are due compensation (it would be out of the airlines control if for example air traffic control would go on strike).
