Change at check-in for a more direct flight?

My partner's aunt is flying back to VIE tomorrow on LH. Her FRA-VIE routing is FRA-MUC-VIE as the fare was EUR 100 cheaper when she purchased (she either bought V or Q). Just wondering if LH checkin staff (in N. America) would be so kind to permit her to fly FRA-VIE instead? The FRA-VIE flight looks wide open (Y-G 9) while the MUC-VIE flight seems more booked up (Y-M 3). I'd wager the answer will be no but I guess it won't hurt to ask.

The only reason why LH would do that favor is because of heavy overbooking.

Since at the time she checks in in North America the overbooking situation is still completely open, I heavily doubt that they would allow a change to the itinerary. And once in Frankfurt, with checked in bags, it's pretty much out of the question as well.
