What about BA? Would definitely rate it over AF.
But to answer your question: my AF experience is limited to only one longhaul flight and I was not too impressed, especially because I had to connect in CDG which is a pain, even more than LHR. And connection is part of service experience IMHO. The onboard service on LH is really professional and quite consistent. Not sure about AF.
This thread, while old, might help as well.

CDG is not really a glorious option either... really depends on what you are looking for, NZs full flat seat might be worth the pain of LHR, definitely more worth than going thru CDG for AFs angled seat...

The seat on LH and AF is almost the same, fully flat but with a slight angle. BA 's seat is quite narrow but therefore fully flat and really comfortable.
Service on BA is hit or miss. Don't know about AF but in my experience you get a quite constant service on LH. I don't care about AVOD and entertainment stuff, so can't comment on this. Food is almost the same with probably a slight plus for LH.
If it comes to their hubs: MUC is great, FRA ok, LHR dreaming of T5 and CDG not if I can avoid it…

Hey,
LX new C isn't that bad
On the ZRH-LAX-route, LX flyes with the A340-300, which has (more or less) the same seat as LH (and obviously as AF - I will never know...): Angled, but full flat. I sleep like a log on these.
The service is quite similar to LH's, IMO slightly more personal.
Concerning the hubs:
ZRH and MUC are absolutely bearable (new and well arranged - I use both of them regularely...), FRA and LHR are - let's say - "unattractive", and CDG - no comment.

I had a "hit or miss" experience recently flying FRA - HYD return in C (the "roseless" flight ). FRA - HYD was truly stunning - the entire crew truly cared and made the flight experience very special. HYD - FRA - crew was lazy, apart from the two drink services no refills other than on request, breakfast service started 2.5 hours before landing , etc.
Having said that, flying BA C or LH C is usually worth the investment IME.

I had a look at the LHR-LAX fares on NZ:
[KVS Availability Tool 3.0.0/Platinum - Sabre: Fares/ZUJ/SG/EUR]
The Z fare doesn't look too bad considering it is ex-LHR !
Here is FRA-LAX with NZ via LON: (much better!)
[KVS Availability Tool 3.0.0/Platinum - Sabre: Fares/ZUJ/SG/EUR]
However LH's Z fares are much cheaper (but do note that there is a long advance purchase rule!)

I can have a nice Z fare on Lufthansa, Swiss or Air France. A few months ago I travelled in Luftansa business class from Ams to SFO. That was okee. How is the business class of Air France compared to Lufthansa? Is Air France better or not?
