Lufthansa Group service to Bristol [BRS]
Do any of the no-frills airlines fly this route? Just checking for travel in the 2nd week of May and LH is at $897 (for a 2hr flight), while BA is $353!

As bmibaby are not currently flying to Germany (thanks to part-owners LH I suspect), the only budget airline between the UK and Munich is easyJet to Stansted. If you're really on a budget, you could then take the train from Stansted to Bristol for around £30 return and it takes 3 hours. There's also easyJet from Berlin direct to Bristol if you can find some sort of cheap deal to SXF.

Since when is LH flying to Bristol?

flyBE is offering daily services from Southampton and Birmingham to Salzburg (SZG). Maybe this could be an alternative routing? (It takes some 2 hours from Salzburg city to Munich by train, 1.5 by car.)

New service FRA-BRS eff 30 MAR 08 [merged BRS thread]
Operated with EW Bae 146-300.
FRA-BRS 08h55-09h45 16h15-17h05 21h30-22h20 BRS-FRA 06h20-09h05 11h30-14h15 17h40-20h25 |
Wow! One more UK destination. Good news. Thanks for posting

Excellent news. Really tremendous for those of us in and around the West Country. I'm in the process of reorganising (gleefully) my flying schedule from LHR-FRA-... to BRS-FRA-...
At the moment the fares on LH.com are only from 1st April, so the first couple of days flying will either by very quiet, or only open to award fares (which are coming up OK). Hopefully they'll fix that in the next couple of hours, because I feel a first flight coming on. |
SH*TE
I thought this was going to be good news. But check this out: KWI-FRA-BRS d.10/07/08 BRS-FRA-KWI d.15/07/08 = GBP 1,529.97 KWI-LHR d.10/07/08 LHR-KWI d.15.07.08 = GBP 597.99 For those who went to a comprehensive school, that makes flying Lufthansa to Bristol GBP 931.98 more expensive. I'd rather spend the extra 45 minutes driving to LHR over BRS in the nice Jag I could hire for that price difference! I guess every silver lining has an expensive cloud. In this case, it's the price of LH code-sharing with Eurowings on the FRA-BRS route. v.v.v.v.disappointed |

It takes a while for fares to get loaded that take the new route into account. In a few weeks BRS will be able to enjoy the same fares you have ex MAN, LHR, EDI etc. And since LH is competing in BAs home market I'm sure they will be competitive ;)
There's a combination of fares at £431 (KWI-FRA / QHNRKWI) and at £196 (FRA-BRS / QABASIC1) which totals £627 plus £214 tax = £841. However, the fare to FRA is exactly the same as the fare to BHX (QHNRKWI) so I would guess that you'll end up with the same fare to BRS once they load it to the route. So that will be £431 + £214 = £645. (So about £50 more than flying to LHR, which seems like a bargain!) |

Yes, expertflyer is showing only the standard YRT (default economy fare) as loaded, hence the scary price.

Since car rentals from Bristol seem to be much cheaper than Heathrow, the GBP50 premium's no biggie. Now you've solved that problem for me... any chance of the B3130 becoming a dual carriageway by Dec 21st to make it even more worthwhile choosing BRS over LHR? :)^ |

LH does not codeshare with EW - EW (a company owned 49% and controlled 100% by LH) operates the flight as a wet-lease for LH.

For a MAY'08 trip, I'm still getting economy KWI-BRS 912.80 KWD (GBP 1,683) on Lufthansa, compared with 269 KWD (495 GBP) on KLM. Thanks in advance ^ |
