I'm sure, would probably rather take it than the flight but getting in almost 7 hours earlier has some appeal as well

Quick question about getting from terminal 2 to terminal 1.

Both sectors (inbound and outbound) are non-schengen

I note there is a bus connecting the terminals airside - but is it also possible to walk in a timely fashion (under 15 mins)

Yes, both terminals are connected landside by the central mall/MAC thing. Walking will take 10mins I'd say and is mostly indoors. Though I would recommend taking the bus as it will save you reclearing security and passport control twice. Bus runs every 15 or 20mins and is a smooth affair. Of course only works if you don't have baggage to re-check.

I don’t think I would go landside for a periodical, as I read most of them online. For a good beer, I would.

There is a bus that allows you to stay airside. Just look for the signs.

No security, just passport control. Though if connecting to a flight to the US, there may be a random security check.
