New AIRRAIL fares ZWS-FRA from 05/05/2003 ?

Expedia lists new fares for STR-FRA (ZWS is not possible with Expedia) from May 5:

MRAILWE and CRAILWE (both with Saturday stay required) for 48,00 and 66,00 EUR

YRAILRT and CRAILRT for 71,00 and 106,00 EUR

The new M/Y fares also appear on Infoflyway for "flights" after May 5 but not the C fares (CRAILWE appears in the time/price matrix if you choose MRAILWE-compliant "flights", but after choosing the 66,00 EUR price, Infoflyway finds an "even lower fare" - the 48,00 EUR MRAILWE). Business class restricted shows no availability and business unrestricted is 358,00 EUR.

Any insights on the CRAILRT because that fare would make earning status cheaper (if you would still earn 4000/5000 miles on a RT on this fare)?

Edit: Edited for typos

Does anyone know if the CRAILRT for 106,00 EUR will be bookable for "flights" after 05/05/03? And if yes, how? Otherwise I will book 3 RTs for 139,00 EUR before the fares change.

Any help will be appreciated.

CRAILRT is bookable at DER-Tour www.der.de

Thanks for posting the new fares, dave125 :-)

hann, thanks, I also tried www.start.de and it worked.

Will it still earn 4000/5000 miles?

Infoflyway has a new description of AIRRAIL in Products & Services including Cologne (currently only in German) that says that there will be no separate LH coach anymore but first and business passengers will be seated in DB first class (with snack (=sandwich?) and drink) and economy passengers in DB second class.

The way the Airrail works is changing from May 5th.

From that day on there is no seperate LH coach anymore. LH is buying seats from Deutsche Bahn according to demand. F and C pax in First Class and Y pax in Second Class.

I am not sure if there is service on board.

Is there going to be any change in the miles earned for airrail? Someone posted some smallprint from LH which said there would be no miles earned on train services, but I can't find that post anymore.

Lufthansa has publically stated a number of times in reference to AirRail that their goal is to eventually eliminate FRA-STR service because of congestion at FRA. Given that and the generous bonus miles for AirRail until a year ago, it's difficult to believe that LH would incent people to fly rather than take the train by eliminating mileage accrual on AirRail.

How many miles would I get if I credited the "flights" to Mexicana Gold?

Hey, nice to see another Mannheimer here, Dave125.

I´m really curious what changes we´ll see from May 5, when the new FRA-QKL services start. Depending on fares and miles credit, this might give a whole new dimension to airrailing. However, did you notice that ZWS-FRA and FRA-QKL (and vice versa) are not the same trains? So it´s not possible to "connect" at FRA without even leaving one´s seat...

Airsicknessbag, I wonder if a non-Mannheimer would recognize the airport code :-)

"Für Miles & More Mitglieder heißt es natürlich auch im Zug zum Flug: Lufthansa Meilen inklusive."

I hope this statement on Infoflyway means 2000/2500 and 4000/5000 miles (Y/C) and not 500 miles like on selected DB routes in DB first class.

Hopefully LH will provide information about mileage earnings on their website or M&M website on May 1. That would mean there will still be enough time to take some "flights" before May 5.

If you are holding a BP with a LH flight number you always earn status miles except travelleing on buses (eg FRA-XER).

Like flights within Germany you earn on AIRails 500 status M&M miles if booked in T, 1.000 status miles in other Economy booking classes and 2.000 status miles in Business Class. As always, 25% executive bonus applies.

Deutsche Bahn is a Miles & Travel partner of M&M. You can earn 500 award miles on the ICE sprinter routes Frankfurt – Munich vv, Frankfurt – Berlin vv, the metropolitan route Cologne – Hamburg vv and Hamburg - Frankfurt v.v. in F.
