Award setas on empty OS flight -- do they open up?

I am trying to get one award seat on OS for my partner (in either class, preferably C), I already have one. The plane seems to be empty (2 seats assigned in C, 8 or so assigned in Y in an F70, with C9 Y9), but no award availability. Can I count on some opening up in the future, or am I definitely traveling alone? I am looking for early May.

Also, any recommendations on C set in the F70? Should I avoid the bulk head?

Thanks.

award seats (also upgraded seats) on OS often only show a few weeks before departure - and they can't be electronically waitlisted.

My LH angels (in Zürich) will then phone every week to OS in Vienna until they (for me it was always about upgraded seats VIE-MEL, never for award seats) until they got it. This never failed, but could be as short as only 2 weeks before the flight.

Hmm, this doesn't reflect my experiences. Since OS also uses Amadeus, I-Class can be requested and will return as HL, i.e. waitlisted. This is how it worked on my trip to NYC in January. Maybe this was a computer glitch and was not supposed to happen?

I was waitlisted for an OS I class flight from Dec until Mar when I got it (was 3 days before departure but still better than nothing). OS started electronic waitlisting last fall on some routes. Mine was SYD-VIE.

Same here, was waitlisted for an OS I class upgrade VIE-JFK from beginning of October until end of November last year and got the upgrade one hour before departure while checking with an AUA C lounge staff member in VIE.
But I don't really see a big advantage to use miles for an upgrade on a F70 (usually short flights, seats are the same as in Y - moveable class divider or curtain).

SEN line told me last year, that they can waitlist upgrades, but not awards in I.

Thanks -- it's an award flight (coming from US), not an upgrade, so I am looking for a seat in either class. 3.5 hour flight, alas.
