My mother in law is celiac and she just flew to BOS two weeks ago. The food was pretty good according to her (she is not FT, flies two or three roundtrips a year).
She got fish with kinoa, salad, fig based desert and rice bread. She flew Y, but I believe that C would be pretty similar.

Does anyone of you has experience on that topic?
As a big "fan" of Y's GFML:

I can swear that the fish that I get each time out of FRA is the same fish (not the type, but the actual specimen, it feels as if it was caught in 2004 or so, cut into small pieces which were frozen, and since then they are trying to get read of it).

On the other hand, they never screwed up their catering, which after 43 legs with them (including inter-European with no GFML), puts them ahead the industry standard (avoid UA if you are not prepared to verify that everything on your tray is GF).

The one thing to keep in mind wrt to SPML (and in the context of GFML this is usually stupid): once you ordered it, expect no op-ups. Even if you will be the only HON, and all the rest are lowly no-status pax, you will not be op-uped.

Vegetarian options on transatlantic flights

Does LH Y class always carry a vegetarian option on transatlantic routes?

I am pretty sure you can't use SWU's to upgrade from Y to J if you have a special meal request and so I am planning to not make my usual AVML request for my next Y booking, to maximize chances of the upgrade.

I think LH usually has a pasta-type dish as a vegetarian option even in Y, but just wanted to check.

Thanks!

LH is famous for food options in Y:

chicken
or
pasta

The only difference is the sauce. Both have pretty rubbery taste. I always enjoy a nice meal before the flight :-) and take few fruits as snack with me on flights.

Any recent experience?
I'm traveling TLV-FRA-BOS

Thanks.

I'm not sure whether to stick with the vegi option.

Last time I flew FRA-TLV route in C, I opted for the regular menu. It depends HOW Kosher r u? If it's Glatt, then go with Kosher. But if u r (example) "Kippot srugot" and/or keeping "Kosher style", then regular menu in LH is excellent. They don't have ANY pork at all. You can choose the veggie option, such as pasta with cheese, etc. You get multiple choice there. The plates they use for salads are "cold" plates but I'm not sure if the hot meal plates are glass or porcelain (but then we r getting too deep in Kashrut here)

In any event, thera are more than veggie meals on LH.

p.s. The Kosher company that supplies the LH on those routes (usually) is Stogel from Antwerp (the one with "peace" pigeon that flying with forks and knifes)

all the best,

Just flew 2 weeks ago TLV MUC in F, you can have Glatt kosher orderd, or regular kosher, the food is very good,

And Stogel is NOT is not providing the food on those routes, From TLV its local catering or Masbia that provides Glatt kosher, and from FRA its Shofar.

The only time I had Stogel was MUC BRU in C.

If you fly to TLV via FRA from another EU destination, you DO get Stogel and Shofar. And how can Glatt Kosher food be good?

I have done many flights on LH in C. I normally get Stogel (longlife, bad) only on flights to/from MUC or DUS, though since the TLV flights started at MUC I often get Sohar from there also. For MUC/DUS flight I normally order FPML instead (fruit meal).

To/from FRA it is almost always Sohar (good) if catering is done from Frankfurt (most EU flights). The exceptions are i) if there is a night stop , eg first flight LHR-FRA, and ii) when there is a hot meal in Y, eg HEL-FRA. In these cases meals are sourced locally - eg Hermolis from London. From HEL there are Sohar meals stored locally after much complaining to LH customer relations.

On the other hand, from Asia there are often Stogel meals - eg from BKK, even in First class. A disaster, inedible.

Why Cant Glatt Kosher be good ??? I have been eating Glatt Kosher for the last 30 years, and we have some very good stuff.

Even LH from USA changed from OU to Regal meal becuase of the demand.

Special meals - has anyone tried the GFML?

Has anyone tried the Gluten free meal lately aboard LH intercontinental flights? I'm flying Business, FRA-YVR but if you have in economy, it will give me an idea of what it is overall.

Thanks!

Edit update : Oh no, fish? Is it in some sauce at least? I found that SQ serves dry chicken breast for its GFML and its LFML. Same menu?

But catering ex-HKG , ex-BKK are usually quite good for GFML .. you get rice bread which is yummy!

MOML on LH flights....pics? content?

Im looking to see what MOML looks like on LH flights....primarily from DEN-FRA and FRA-DXB....We're scheduled to be in Business Class, so usually theres a choice of entree's that include a seafood choice.

The description on LH's website says this:
Moslem meal: No use of pork, no venison and no alcohol used. The meat is not "halal".

I couldn't help not to laugh since this is wrong. The meat should be halal....it says the meat is NOT halal. hehe....
