PS. For me it would be interesting to know if the award flight, if booked by phone, was booked
in the same state it originated
and
if it was booked via a standard, *G or higher hotline.

May this could be ammended to the questions.

So you are sending a child on his own with a one-way ticket to PEK?

Which route/airline did you book and which class?
LH MAN-FRA-BOG oneway in C
LH EZE-FRA-MAN oneway in F

How many pax and how many award miles?
1 pax, 67K miles, Ł367.34 (of which Ł150 is UK APD) to BOG
1 pax, 105K miles , US$373.40 from EZE

How many days/weeks/months did you book in advance?
5 - 6 months

Have you been able to book your preferred dates of travel?
More or less, FRA-BOG does not operate daily, so had to be flexible.

Were you happy with the award booking procedure (e.g. online/by phone)?
Yes, booked both awards online.

How often did you have to check/call until you got the seats?
I booked two separate tours in South America (somewhere I haven’t been before), one in Colombia and another in Chile with 4 days in-between. The first tour starts in Bogotá and ends in Cartagena. The second starts and ends in Santiago de Chile. I need to get to Bogotá for the start of the tour, move from Cartagena to Santiago and back to Europe after the tours. Since LH does not fly to SCL I looked around and found an F award on LH’s longest flight from SCL to FRA with a couple days in Buenos Aires.

In addition to the two longhaul flights listed, I booked an award for BOG-SCL on LAN using avios (37,500 miles and Ł50.90 in Business) and bought tickets for CTG-BOG (1h27m flight) on Avianca 788 in Business (for 247,500 COP or Ł65.04!) and SCL-EZE (1h50m flight) on Air Canada’s fifth freedom flight on 777 in Premium Economy since I could not justify the price of a Business ticket on AC.

How many days/weeks/months did you book in advance?
4 months (Meilenschnäppchen)

Have you been able to book your preferred dates of travel?
Yes

Were you happy with the award booking procedure (e.g. online/by phone)?
Hell yeah

How often did you have to check/call until you got the seats?
I wasn't able to reserve a seat for this ticket until about a week before the flight. I was booked on the same flight in C for business and we had combined the flight with our Thanksgiving travel, as it was her first time flying in C I wanted to make sure we'd sit together. It did work, but just barely. However, clever boy that I am, I never thought of calling the Senator hotline to reserve for her - no idea if that would have worked.

Dates yes, but not the route. HND-MUC was not available via SEN spl req WL, HKG-MUC didn't clear even though the A380 had Z9, but HKGFRA cleared the WL with D3. Go figure.

6 calls to the SEN line in BER over two months till we finally settled for this option. The end result was an extra day in HKG at the end of our JP easter vacation.

YVR-MUC-ZRH in LH Business Class, A350-900
- How many pax and how many award miles?
52'000 miles and CAD514 in fees and taxes
- How many days/weeks/months did you book in advance?
7 months
- Have you been able to book your preferred dates of travel?
Yes, precisely.
- Were you happy with the award booking procedure (e.g. online/by phone)? How often did you have to check/call until you got the seats?
Easy online booking. Then separate log-in to LH website to assign seats.

The YQ on this award is at its usual insulting level, but I paid up since I must travel on that date and while there was I class available via Miles&More, it wasn't made available to AC or UA FFPs.

I'm a bit surprised they allowed to "backtrack" to PEK to fly HKG - TPE effectively, unless I missed something. Good for you if that is what you wanted ot what was available.

Indeed, what an odd itinerary to get from HKG to TPE. Assuming that no seats available on the direct BR flights since you were allowed to fly via PEK. Maybe BR has no availability yet as you book 12 months out whereas many carriers will allow only 330 days out.
