Switched from Lufthansa to Eurowings Discover (4Y) w/o notification
Hello,
I booked a Dec family trip on LH in Sept from YVR to FRA, connecting on to LIS. At the time of booking, outbound flight was LH metal (LH493) but somewhere along the way, the YVR-FRA flight was switched to a Eurowing flight (LH4269). Same situation for the return FRA-YVR flight. Seat assignments were also changed, presumably due to different equipment.
There was no notification of this, and when I spoke to LH they told me I must have been mistaken, however I have original confirmation email showing the LH493/492 flight numbers so I know this happened. Unfortunately it seems a bit late to cancel and rebook on another airline as tickets are much more expensive now, so questions:
- what to expect in terms of Eurowings flight experience?
- will I get any UA *G benefits (lounge access in YVR, during the 4+ hour layover in FRA, etc.)?
- Eurowings seems to be a LCC so presumably their tickets are generally cheaper. Does this warrant some adjustment in fare?
- any other suggestions on dealing with this situation?
Thanks in advance for your insights.

This is now EW Discover (4Y 71) operated with former LH A330 aircraft. Other than crew and different visual branding the soft and hard product will be exactly the same as on a LH A330.

Lounge access is described here: https://www.eurowings-discover.com/e...ation/lounges/

Hello,
Yes, it is normal. The same thing happened for the YUL-MUN and YYC-FRA segments this summer. I actually flew on the YUL-MUN segment myself. It is a funny thing on board! The aircraft was a A359 from Finnair that was operated by a Finnair crew. The safety video featured Eurowings and the amenity kit? A Lufthansa branded one. It can be quite confusing! The service was really nice, the aircraft very clean and comfortable!
Cheers!

4Y is not in *A. UA has special arrangements which you can read about here: https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/mil...-discover.html
FRA lounge access is not an issue. YVR will be a bit more YMMV but it should still work

I doubt 'all aspects ' are same as LH: my biggest concern is mileage earning. I'm planning to credit to AC, OZ, or UA, none of them seem to give me miles with EWD.
I called LH,
I asked them to rebook me on AC metals due to mileage earning, I was expecting to earn from LH metals and that was a part of what I paid for. After a few HUCA, all reps refused, citing no seats on AC, however of course plenty of seats are on sale when I search on Google Flights. How do I go about this? I could probably get a full refund, but if I buy a new ticket now, it's a lot more expensive, so not an option.

I'm in the same boat as OP, except I've received a few emails about the change, including one explains how nice EWD is.

... and I would like to add that I had a flight by 4Y in J on one of their ex-LH 330.
Be it for good or for bad, the product is LH painted in EW colours. With one distinction: The staff very rather relaxed, they introduced themselves by first name, and they tried to adapt their appearance to the holiday customers. In the end, I liked them much more than the LH J wanna-be-elite attitude.

Same as LH - except for the colours.
Same as with LH.
Allthough they share the same colours, it is NOT the LCC Eurowings (EW), it is "Eurowings discover" (4Y) which is the new holiday carrier created by LH. Expect 4Y to be very much the same as LH, in terms of hard and soft product.
Since EW do not serve parallel routes with LH, you will not be able to tell whether they are really "cheaper"...
Relax and enjoy!!!

Please double check the programs' web pages. With AC and UA 4Y is effectively the same as LH (award and status-wise).

While it is true that 4Y is not *A - as long as you stay within the TATLcartel joint venture universe, it doesn't matter at all.
