If the CPB think that a certain flight has a high number of passengers that may contravene with immigration (overstay visa, not stay more than 180d/year on green cards etc) or customs (>10000$ in cash etc) they do spot checks in the jetway. In DTW is normal for LH flights, I've seen similar situations in ATL & PHX on flights leaving for Mexico. For more such reports please go to this part of the forum: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chec...cy-debate-687/

The fact that there was CPB checking departing pax on your flight has nothing to do with the mess the LH longhaul operation was in the last few days. Also I would not assume that LH takes the decision to do an empty ferry flight lightly. Besides the cost of the ferry flight, rebooking/accomodating the stranded pax is a massive loss for the company.
Yes of course.
First, my observation is not that there was a spot check- it was the show of force and aggressiveness that was over the top. Perhaps it was merited, perhaps it was show. Who knows. But CBP is generally high on the aggressive scale.
Second, I never suggested the cancellation had anything to do with security checks.

CBP does a strong social, cultural and racial profiling. Social profiling against illegal immigration. Cultural profiling against terrorist threats. Racial profiling against criminals. It’s not common, that a white First class passenger from Europe faces any kind of aggressiveness. The aggressiveness against a black Eco passenger from Sudan is intended. It’s not right, but is that how most boarder protection units in this world work.

Speaking from my own experience I can assure you that is not always the case. It is the luck of the draw. You can get people that are professional and others that are tyrants that are picking a fight.

And it's not always with foreigners. I also have US passport and have been subject to questioning multiple times (sometimes intrusive). And no, it wasn't merited.

I know Americans often get bent out of shape when anyone criticizes anything about the US but CBP is not exactly always super professional and is often very aggressive and looking to provoke. More so than in other countries. I've never had those experiences elsewhere in the world except in Israel.

That's my experience. Doesn't mean it's the absolute truth, just my experience, that's all.

Anyway we digress...

Airport CBPs are a bunch of cupcakes made of rainbows and butterflies compared to the massively corrupt CBPs along the Mexico border (drug/human/sex trafficking, assault of all kinds, homicide, bribes etc). To make things worse SCOTUS limited, and seems to want to eliminate, the ability to sue agents/CBP that violate US Citizens constitutional rights (the Supreme Court is on a roll this month..).

On the positive, CBP has been told disband their “secret” internal cover-up teams (CIT) - who knows if they actually will. Unfortunately, news of their actions down here rarely make it out of the border states. Except for when they becomes heros’ and stop a school shooter

Nonsense. You're simply saying that because it aligns with your victim/oppressor worldview.

Travel alone as a single white male from anywhere in Asia and see how welcoming CBP is upon return.

Somehow I don't think the single Asian female tourist is treated with the same suspicion.

Oh dear... since this has evolved into a border policy debate, you are welcome to continue the discussion in that forum.
