What if flight operates but is impossible to take?

In late June I have a HEL-FRA-EWR LH F flight booked. This was supposed to get me to NY after some time in Europe, but for now iím stranded in the US and the EU may not open their borders before June. If I am unable to enter the EU to get on this flight, but LH donít cancel it, then what?

Also my flight is scheduled on a 74H, but right now LH are operating an A333 w no F for LH402. If they schedule change and eliminate the cabin iím booked in, is that grounds for a refund?

Downgrade: yes, you are able to cancel/full refund

Not being able to arrive at origin for check-in: your problem. Voluntary refund/rebooking according to ticket rules

I would be fairly confident that LH will cancel these and give you a voucher for future travel.

is your flight to the EU on a different ticket?

Is the trip from the EU to the US a paid or a redemption ticket?

I am in the same boat for early June. My Singapore Air flight JFK-FRA has been cancelled. I have 3 LH flights around Europe that I will not be able to take. I am waiting for LH to cancel to get a voucher. Or to extend the voucher expiration date to the end of June 2021.

As it gets closer, if LH doesn't cancel the flights, I will try to make a claim with my travel insurance company.

I would like to get a voucher, but will not be able to really use it until next summer. So, I hope they get extended.

Is LH giving refunds if your passport/residence does not permit you to fly the ticket due to new government imposed entry requirements?

No. Force Majeure and all that. I think you can still get a voucher.

This is a fragment of the T&C attached to an August outing I have with Lufthansa.
I've no idea if they, you or the courts would see it applying to the case you delineate: but it's something you might like to explore.

LH 402 is operating now, why do you think it will be cancelled in late June?

At the time of booking (back in 2019), I was supposed to go to Asia in May, then return to the EU and stay at my place in Paris for several weeks before going to Helsinki for a weekend and then originating this ticket. The entire Asia trip was obviously cancelled. On the AY ticket JFK-HEL-HKG to Asia, all legs were cancelled. On the return KUL-TPE-CDG some of the legs were cancelled. None of this was on the LH F ticket which is HEL-FRA-EWR, LAX-FRA-ARN.

Voucher, refund or just travel on different dates would be fine. This wasn't a particularly cheap fare, so if they allow a date change to a time into 2021 that I could actually fly it, I don't anticipate much if any fare difference. Would prefer not to bother trying to reschedule in 2020, just to have to go through this run around again.

if you are booked in F and LH is not offering this you can get a refund. It should be pretty simple.

Because LH is hardly flying at the moment. Yes, the flight may go out, but your connecting HEL flight might be binned.

Hopefully, a refund would be nice and easy.

Your reference is not applicable.
Your reference is applicable for the case, that somebody books a flight from AAA to BBB and does not get a visa to enter BBB.
In by the OP described case he may not be able to get to AAA. That's outside of the responsibility of the airline.

The only change the OP has, that either one of the flights gets cancelled or the FRA - US leg gets downgraded to an aircraft without F.
