If any of your flights in the reservation are cancelled or changed significantly, you can change/refund the ticket as per the section 4.1.2 in this document: https://www.lufthansaexperts.com/shared/files/lufthansa/public/mcms/folder_102/folder_3625/file_143775.pdf
If you still want to fly as (re)booked after a schedule change, you need to reconfirm the reservation with a certain number of days as show here: https://www.lufthansaexperts.com/shared/files/lufthansa/public/mcms/folder_102/folder_3625/file_147814.pdf
If you want to change your ticket due to the uncertanty associated with the Covid 19 pandemic, two kinds of waivers are available which are explained here: https://www.lufthansaexperts.com/shared/files/lufthansa/public/mcms/folder_102/folder_3625/file_147655.pdf
Any changes are best done by the agency that booked your ticket. If you booked directly with LH they will handle the rebooking/reissue and/or refunds. This should be done by calling in. Online functionality of LH.com is rather poor.

This illustrates the point regarding LH's revenue management right now:

Modest and most cheapest classes closed.

LO is wide open. O-Class being like LH's K Class.
The point being, both are ghost ships, except LH is even more of a flying dud with that heavy, thirsty A319 and expensive LH crew.
I thought Rev Mgt was something like right price, right product, right time and right person. All that is off right now. There are next to no last min corporate bookings, any pax travelling now are VFR wanting to get home etc.

I have a flight booked in N-Y fare classes. I am trying to change this, and the new flights that I would like to change into are also N-Y fare classes. The prices of the tickets are exactly the same. However, when I call to make changes, I am being quoted thousands of dollars. Does anyone have any idea why this could be the case? Flights are JFK-FRA-IST-FRA-JFK. It is a flight that the waiver applies, confirmed by LH.

max_kolesne You might want to read the entire thread. In difference to other European carriers such as IB, LH isn't particularly generous. If you haven't flown the first leg, the ticket price will be recalculated based on currently available fares which might be different from the historic fare you booked.

The waiver is just for the rebooking fee and making Light fares flexible plus fare difference. Within the same RBD it’s strange that there would be thousands of $ difference. It’s true that from what I understood that it’s not a straight forward swap from N to N.
Price it up on ITA, compare it to your booking and see what is the difference. You can also search by fare code if you read the guidance on the finding fares forum.

No, I'm aware of that, and my issue is not a price difference between my historic fare and the current recalculated fare that is available. I am re-pricing the whole ticket and it is still at the same price. I mean, there is a difference of $30, but that’s it. The price difference between the historic fare I've booked and the current fare if I were to buy a completely new ticket is only $30. It is exactly for the same booking classes (N, and Y). Yet, they are still quoting me $3000-$4000 depending on options to change my flights.
Little can be added to what has already been stated. Even if your routing and booking classes don't change, there might be a fare difference to pay if the applicable base fare changes. Differences in base fares can be substantial if your new routing doesn't meet the orginal minimum-stay requirements, advance-booking requirements, etc.
I agree $3000-$4000 seems v high, though.

That's my theory. I guess you could put forward other explanations. Certainly, the cost structure for airlines is different at this point. Normal state of affairs: When a customer buys an eco light, he either uses or loses the ticket, except in rare circumstances like IRROPS. Today's state of affairs: A customer buys an eco light ticket and may change that ticket free of charge. Where's the fun in that?
I'd even offer a third theory related to the second which stresses that operational risks are through the roof at this point. Airlines can expect high costs from re-accomodating pax, from compensation under EC law etc.

I'm afraid it will be hard to retrace this without knowing the exact itinerary, fare, and the rebooking that you requested.

Planned (not yet booked) flight from ARN-HND in late June with NH, can be booked through LH but this waiver is confusing me.
Maybe sounds a bit too much to hope fore but if I book this flight before end of March, will I be eligible for rebook on this flight until end of 2020 no matter what fare type I choose?
I am looking into buying economy with the possibility to refund (for a fee) if needed. I don't know what the situation will be like in three months (quarantaine, travel ban, entry restrictions, etc)...

Not sure what's going on. The only thing that comes to mind is that perhaps LH has changes planned which are somehow reflected in their own system but not in the tools FT'ers love (ITA matrix, Google Flights, Expertflyer...) There was a press release today which lends a little support to that guess. Basically, LH announced today they have redone their schedule adjustments through April 24 and they will implement them in the GDS' soon. Another tiny piece of support for my guess is that the flights you mention still show as being operated by 388 aircraft. But LH is saying it wants to ground those.

Tried calling LH to change a mixed J/F booking (AMS-ZRH-BKK r/t) operated by LX. Originally booked when the 2for1 sale was on so about 1500€/pax total. Same booking classes were available (P and A) on the dates I wanted to rebook to but was told there would be 1100€ per pax tax difference to be paid. Can that be right?

Alright folks. LX 38/39 has been cancelled the last two days in a row. Decided to move my trip back home next week to earlier to avoid being stranded in the US. Only had to pay 5 CHF for the privilege.
Hopefully things will clear up in 3 months. But I’m officially hanging up my spurs (heels) and moving to the beach.

Daddy has issued one of his orders and it seems all EU (European) pax banned for 30 days due to Corona.
Effectively grounding every EU airline in the process. I can’t see how LH, LX, OS and LO can either bother with US flights now?
Goodness, such strong leadership. You will have to watch out “sophialite” he will have his eye on you in your mankini!

That's the "trick" on those "free rebookings" with LHG now.
