LH600 FRA-IKA diverted [LH Group suspend flights to Tehran]

Anyone know whatís happening?

Apparently a lot of bereaved family members of PS752 victims were on this flight to Iran.

Honestly surprised they haven't suspended that flight.

So it seems the Jan 10 flight is also cancelled then Jan 11 is scheduled with a technical stop at GYD for refuelling I suppose? Odd... I didnít think there were issues procuring fuel at IKA, iran must be rolling in it considering they canít export much oil. Unless itís a new sanctions related issue with payment?

could the stop be to have the crew stay/change somewhere else?

Interesting point. Makes more sense than fuel.

while I don't know that, my assumption would be:

- todays flight was cancelled to deadhead a crew to GYD
- GYD will be were crews are changed for the time being
- existing crew that was IKA was flown out on QR/EK/EY/TK/... - doubt they'd let them sit there for 4 days

Lufthansa ordered the plane to turn around, due to reports of the circumstances surrounding the crash in Tehran.

GYD makes a lot of sense. If the feces hit the fan, you can even drive from IKA to GYD.

An OS flight was also impacted by the order to return to departure airport but needed to refuel in SOF first.

Current flight information

Tehran:

Due to the unclear security situation for the airspace around Tehran airport, Lufthansa Group airlines are cancelling flights from/to Tehran up to and including 20 January as a precautionary measure.

Together with national and international authorities, Lufthansa Group Security continues to evaluate the security situation for arrivals and departures for Tehran airport and the entire Iranian airspace. As soon as we have detailed information, we will decide whether and when our Iranian flights can be operated again. We regret the inconvenience for our passengers.
Also...

Erbil:

Lufthansa will resume flights to Erbil on Tuesday, January 14th. The flight on 11 January could not be resumed so quickly for operational reasons.

Austrian Airlines resumed the Erbil flights on 10 January. All available information was taken into account in the decision.
