All the changes are listed on the official M&M Website: https://www.miles-and-more.com/de/en...ts/update.html

Starting 2021, the system for earning status changes. From then on, status points are earned by cabin and segment flown:

Regional flights will earn 5 points in Economy and Premium Economy, 10 points in First and Business class per segment
Intercontinental flights, ie flights between two IATA regions, will earn 15 points in Economy, 20 in Premium Economy, 50 in Business and 70 in First class segments

There will be two kinds of points : qualifying points (QP): earned with M&M integrated partners (LH/EW/LX/OS/LO/OU/LG/etc) and normal points : earned with other partners like the airlines in the Star Alliance. QP can be earned on LH Airrail train segments, but are capped at 40/120/250 per year for FTL/SEN/HON.

'Frequent Traveler' (FTL, equivalent to *S) status is given to members with 160 points (of which atleast 80 need to be QP), 'Senator' (SEN, *G) to members with 480 points (of which atleast 240 need to be QP). HON Circle (HON) is awarded after reaching 1500 QP in one year.

SEN will receive two evouchers upon qualification each year, HON 4 evouchers. There will be no rollover of QP, but for members who exceed the qualification QP level, M&M will grant the following benefits:
FTL: Mileage exchange for QP at 200 qualifying points
SEN: 2 eVoucher at 700 qualifying points; 15,000 award miles at 1,000 qualifying points; Frequent Traveller partner card at 1,300 qualifying points
HON:2 eVoucher at 1,800 qualifying points; 30,000 award miles at 2,100 qualifying points; 2 eVoucher at 2,400 qualifying points; Frequent Traveller partner card at 2,700 qualifying points; Senator partner card at 3,000 qualifying points

The system of status miles, HON Circle miles, select miles, and status star points will be abolished at the end of 2020. Any status earned prior to that will be honored. Any HON Circle miles earned in 2020 will be credited as QP in the ratio 200:1. Status star points earned till end of 2020 will converted to lifetime QP at a ration of 2:1.

Members with a lifetime QP of 7500 will be awarded FTL for their lifetime. If members reach 10000 lifetime QP and have been SEN for at least a cumulative 10 years they will be awarded lifetime SEN status.

Status is always valid for the year of qualification and one additional year. HON and SEN will have a 'soft landing' ie if they cannot requalify for status, they will get a year of SEN or FTL respectively.

Lightbulb New qualifying points system for status from 2021

Miles and more gave Handelsblatt the details ahead of todays event, so here we go:

Status points, star points and HON Circle miles will be abolished.

Shorthaul flights will earn points:

Economy earns 5, Business earns 10 points per segment.

Longhaul flights earn:

15 in Y, 20 in PE, 50 in C, 70 in F

There will be two kinds of points : qualifying points: earned with LH 'premium' (LH/LX/OS/maybe SN) and M&M integrated partners (LO/OU/LG/etc) and normal points : with other *A partners and EW.

Status is now only valid for a year and requires points to be earned each year:
FTL will be awarded to members with 160, half of which have to be qualifying points.
SEN need 480, again half of which have to be qualifying points.
HON need 1500 qualifying points, ie LH 'premium' and M&M integrated partner flights only.

Lifetime FTL is awarded at 7500 qualifying points
Lifetime SEN is awarded at 10000 qualifying points, but requires 10 years of SEN

Status stars, Jetfriends and SEN premium award (book any award at 150%) will be abolished.

Are they really scrapping the differences between classes? This would have a huge impact on miles-runners who collected their status by flying European hops in D. This would only encourage people to book the absolutely cheapest flights possible, since P would now be no different than the more expensive classes.

So no EUR requirements and difficult for high intra european fares in Y for SEN.
M&M partners seem to be treated like LH group.
MR's not dead.

Also distance doesnít matter as much? F to Dubai probably nets as many points as F to SIN?

Maybe the cheapest classes won't net any points?

Let me add my post from the other thread here:

What the article roughly says (no guarantee it is actually true):

All flight segments will get us points:

short-haul: 5 (Y/PE), 10 (J/F)
long-haul: 15/20/50/70 (Y/PE/J/F)

Status thresholds:
FTL: 160 (min 80 on LH Group)
SEN: 480 (min 240 on LH Group)
HON: 1500 (all on LH Group)
per year!

If true, it closes many loopholes and devalues F-cabin tickets, particularly booking class F.

HONs will need 22 F-cabin segments a year or 30 J-cabin segments a year to stay HON. (minus points from feeders and short-haul)
SEN will probably be about as difficult as before, but only for one year and thus less attractive.

Apparently SEN benefits such as the Senator Premium Award will be scrapped.

If true, again, the new system would not have a revenue component at all, which would be a huge huge surprise.

But correct me if I am wrong. The new system (which is not that bad at all) has nothing to do with revenue based system... Itīs just a different system of status miles accural.

Curious on the finer points. Surely there must be a distance component. The big release event to HON etc is today at 18:30 in FRA, but I think they will do a press event in the afternoon. SleepOverGreenland and Flying Lawyer will join me at the evening event today. We will post here as soon as possible.

Will be interesting to see how LH IT will convert all my flights so far into qualifying points.

There must be some footnotes, such as "no points for light" fares etc.

Will the current status star points be converted 1:1? They say they will consider it to lifetime status accrual.

It looks to be a copy and paste of AF/KL Flying Blue. If the system is so simple as presented above, then HON becomes possible with 12.5 intercontinental business class return flights per year (including feeder flights). I also agree it will be interesting to see the finer points - it does feel a bit too generous, with no differentiation between cheap and expensive tickets/booking classes.

Let's hope they show some kind of generosity because the lifetime status requirements sound REALLY steep. Lifetime FTL status is no less than 16 years' worth of SEN status. Lifetime SEN needs 21 years' worth. Compared to other lifetime *S and *G statuses these sound really high.
