M&M lowers YQ on Y awards by 50% for select US routes 02SEP-08NOV2019

Interesting promo, it seems the high YQ does hurt redemptions at M&M for US routes: (had to laugh when I saw the name of the promo in the url: 'spend_promotion_testcaseyqabsenkung')

https://www.miles-and-more.com/de/en...absenkung.html

Book your intercontinental award flights in Economy Class with Lufthansa and SWISS, and you automatically save 50% on the airline surcharge(1), while enjoying 100% of the comfort. You can redeem your miles for the following: intercontinental award flights for a regular 60,000 award miles(2), and with the Early Bird flight award, for as little as 30,000 award miles(2) when you book at least 30 days in advance. You can now save on selected routes to the USA and only have to pay 50% of the airline surcharge.(3) You will save on selected routes from 2.9. to 8.11.2019.

Terms and conditions

  • (1) Airline surcharge: international/national surcharge.
  • (2) Plus taxes, fees and surcharges.
  • (3) Only applies to flight award bookings (outbound and return flight) in Economy Class within the period specified and on the routes stated from Frankfurt, Munich or Zurich on flights operated by Lufthansa (Frankfurt/Munich) or SWISS (Zurich). Booking period: 2.9. to 8.11.2019. No transfers allowed. The respective fare conditions for Standard Flex and Early Bird flight awards apply. In all other respects the general terms and conditions for redeeming award flights apply.

LOL. They reap what they sow. And even then, you can be sure that during this promotional period our Helga will be dumping K fares in some market or another with a cash fare LOWER than her promotional X deal :D.

Not that LH would file any "immoral" fares or anything like that...

Of course, pax could just fly Basia! No YQ on LOT (no YR either!).

But if they really do reduce those stupid bogus surcharges on Economy flights, then that is the way to go forward. Just occasionally there will be a deal to be had in Economy using miles.

If only Basia would offer regular mileage bargains in C, and not just the meagre pickings or Monday Smiles or whatever they call it these days. If you're points rich and cash poor then you're better off paying the full award price on LO than the mileage bargain on LH. Plus you get a standard flexible ticket.

Our Basia has more deals though.

She participates in the Mileage offers on M&M.com
and she also has the Monday sMiles which are Y only but massively reduced compared to the M&M offers. Sometimes there is a 15k trip in Y on M&M which is a 10k trip on Mileage Bargains: remember it’s only for PL registered accounts.

Note to self: change my M&M profile address from Sheraton Leipzig to Duda's presidential palace.

There’s probably a Miles bonus for your Gazeta Polska subscription as well!

In email from LH

Last call for cheaper flights to the USA: book your intercontinental award flight in Economy Class with Lufthansa and SWISS now, and on selected routes, you automatically get 50% off airline surcharges.1

With the Early Bird flight award, you can save even more. If you book at least 30 days in advance, you get intercontinental award flights for only 30,000 award miles instead of the regular 60,000 award miles.2

You benefit from 50% off the airline surcharge until 8.11.2019 on these routes:3

my cynical take - we make up the airline surcharges and now we give you a discount on those...
