Cool Ground handling strike on 5 August in LHR [suspended]

The union UNITE has announced a strike at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) for Monday, 05. August 2019. Impacts on ground handling are expected. Flight cancellations or delays may occur. Please inform yourself about the status of your flight before departure.

Flight Status

Please check the current status of your flight prior to departure.

Please enter your mobile number in your Miles & More profile or in your booking, so information about changes will be automatically advised in the future.

Rebooking

In the event of a cancellation, Lufthansa will rebook you free of charge and usually automatically to another flight and inform you via your mobile phone number. If you do not receive a message from Lufthansa, please check the current status of your booking. Here you can also adjust the rebooking if required.

If you use a Facebook Messenger, you can also rebook via the Lufthansa Chatbot.

Additional information about your options can be found here.

Passenger Rights

Advice regarding air passenger rights can be found here.

Please note that Lufthansa has no influence on strikes by security personnel and that these are to be regarded as exceptional circumstances. We therefore ask for your understanding that we cannot comply with your request for compensation in accordance with EUVO261/2004.

The [HAL or Heathrow Airport Limited] strike has yet to be confirmed however, yes, airlines are cancelling flights for tomorrow & Tuesday as well. Talks are still taking place as we speak in order to avoid industrial actions (in the middle of UK school holidays, amongst other things).

Absolutely. On a slightly different note, I had a quick catch-up with a friend of mine (BA’s first officer) this morning at Heathrow before heading back to the mighty Balkans and he told me that it is looking like [BA] strikes will at least be prevented (whether he’s being overly optimistic or just wanted to change subject, I dunno)

Thanks. FYI — A few ‘preventative’ cancellations seem to have been put in place for Tuesday as well, I had an e-mail through from our corporate travel agent saying that I will have a longer layover in Munich due to the original flight being cancelled, even though I have yet to check the revised itinerary.

BA and several other airlines seem to have managed to reinstate cancelled flights on Monday but LH Group has not been so flexible.

According to BBC one family's holiday should have started on Monday but...

Swiss cancelled their flights to Geneva in preparation for the strike action in Heathrow. They were rebooked on to a flight from City Airport on Tuesday... he is unable to use train tickets from Geneva to Culoz in France which were not refundable. He will now have to rebook them - and incur additional travel costs to City Airport.

"Swiss staff confirmed over the phone that Swiss is not going to pay any compensation," he told the BBC.
Lufthansa had booked 365 affected passengers on alternative flights.
Strike action on Tuesday 6 August is still scheduled to go ahead.
