Rebooking waiver issued November 5, 2019 for the strike to occur on November 7-8, 2019

LH advises you what do in case of irreg cancellations here: https://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/flight-disruptions

Information on the announced strike of UFO

UFO has called on its cabin crew members for a two-day strike on 7 and 8 November. Lufthansa condemns the UFO's call for a strike in the strongest possible terms and is considering legal steps to prevent the strike. We are currently working at full speed on a special flight plan for Thursday and Friday which will be published on Wednesday. We apologize for any inconvenience that may arise.

Please check this website regularly, leave your mobile number in your Miles & More profile or in your booking and you will automatically be informed about the latest changes.

Your flight has not yet been cancelled, but you still want to change to another day or the train?

In order to give you planning security, we now offer you a free rebooking in the following cases

  • You are booked on a Lufthansa Group flight to and from Frankfurt or Munich with departure on 7 or 8 November.
  • Your ticket was issued on and before 4 November.
You can rebook your flight for the same route to a new date up to and including 15 November. Availability in the same class provided.

If you are booked on a domestic Lufthansa flight, we offer you a free exchange of your flight route for a train ticket on this page.

If and when a particular strike begins and flights are actually beginning to be cancelled/automatically rebooked, you can call or use facebook messenger ( https://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/chatbot ) and ask for a rebooking/rerouting. If your ticket was issued by a travel agent or different airline, you are advised to contact the issuing office.

LH usually rebooks to other LH Group carriers, any star alliance carrier or other IATA airline it has an interline agreement with. The preference to do so is in the same order and done only if the preferred alternative doesn't have any free seats in the class of service (not booking class). Award bookings are treated the same way, although you may be requested to contact the issuing carrier for reissuing the ticket. LH issued tickets are usually reissued using the ATC irreg system. Because of the ATC in place, any travel agent who originally issued the tickets can rebook using the rules and reissue the tickets automatically without any intervention required by Lufthansa.

Details of the LH irreg invol rebooking policy is here: https://aviacenter.ru/en/news/2019/04/29/lufthansa-group-airlines.-flight-irregularities-policy-(in-case-of-schedule-changes)/

I have an LAX-FRA flight LH 457 on Friday Nov 8, presumably the incoming flight LH 456 will be cancelled, but they are all showing as on time.

Anyone know what my options are? Trying to get ahead of this, since I have to be on time for meetings.

Interesting, as the steward on my flight FRA-BLR told me all will be cancelled. If that's the case I'll be stuck in BLR for 2 extra days.
If indeed your source is right, I would be able to fly back on the 7th of November to FRA and take LX home to ZRH :-)

Very little you can do until LH permit a waiver for rebooking or your flight is actually cancelled ,keep an eye on the LH website

I’m trying to get the CH number. When I login to my M&M I see the Polish local number and also a Frankfurt number. I change to CH in the settings then go back and now I just see the Polish number.

If anyone would care to PM the service number or assist me that would be appreciated. I’m being prepared!

I would guess, you'll speak to the same people when you call CH number and select DE as language as when you call DE and select DE as language (or EN) :-). What is different, is the LX M&M team... but often they can't help with LH bookings.

Cabin crew cannot strike outside of Germany, so if they are in BLR on Thursday or Friday the flight can take place. LH usually cancels/postpones the inbound if they know that the pax landing in Germany will not be able to get onto any onward flight.

That's the unions logic!
If they WANT to strike, no matter what offer counterpart will make.
Sad, that this kind of things do exist.

UFO has put out a list of demands they are supposedly striking for.

  • Erhöhung aller Purserzulagen: Purser I 600 Euro, Purser II (inkl. GP2) 800 Euro

Unfortunately none of them were tabled earlier. LH does not recognize UFO as a union anymore and has not held talk with them since one year.

However, if I click it and choose only to rebook our outbound flight but still fly on November 8, I get a lot of options, but none are available to proceed with (I chose eg. SAS/Austrian via CPH and Brussels Airlines via BRU to "avoid" any LH flights). Perhaps it has to go a specific link, when/if I receive an e-mail regarding refund/rebooking?

I'm in F, so will likely able to shortcheck to FRA? - and take the train (actual final destination that day is HAM)

Btw, if looking for train options in FRA; due to construction works, not all lines are running!

I have an Air Dolomiti flight on Thursday from Turin to Frankfurt connecting to UA metal to Chicago. I suppose Air Dolomiti is not effected by this strike?

Highly unlikely, expecte the schedule to be trimmed today and tomorrow. LH is reducing the schedule on the two days and plans to operate it with non union FA crews

Its better to call whoever booked your ticket in the first place. They can rebook onto other LHG or SAL airlines. OAL is not possible because the flights have not been cancelled within a 24h window.

I saw your question on VFT... my guess is that they will not operate JNB-FRA on Thursday if they follow the same logic they had for the recent pilot strikes. Segment control will be suspended for sure, and short checking allowed. Only domestic segments can be converted to train tickets, you will have to buy the FFM-HH train ticket separately.

EN FAs are not striking, but LH may schedule the EN aircraft and crew to operate a more critical sector.
