LH to launch MUC-NCL
Lufthansa are launching MUC-NCL, 6 flights weekly (no flight on Saturday) on an A319 starting 3 Feb 2020. Timings are:
MUC 11:50-12:55 NCL NCL 13:40-16:40 MUC Personally I am very pleased about this, I know the timings are not great but NCL really needs a Star Alliance carrier and this will open up some new LH & SH destinations as well as places in Southern Germany & Austria. Those living near MUC can come and enjoy the fantastic hospitality of North East England.

Lufthansa announces direct service between Newcastle and Munich
Lufthansa has strengthened its commitment to the UK market with a new direct flight from Newcastle International Airport (NCL) to Munich International Airport (MUC), available to book on lufthansa.com from today (19 June 2019). Commencing operations from February 3rd 2020, the Airbus A319 aircraft will fly six times weekly between the two cities and provide onward connections from Munich throughout Europe, Americas and Asia Pacific. Munich’s Terminal 2 is completely dedicated to Lufthansa and its partner airlines and has twice been awarded Five Stars by Skytraxx. The convenient and modern hub ensures passenger transit is an enjoyable travel experience all year round. This is the first Newcastle route for Lufthansa, opening its seventh destination in the UK. Operating every day of the week except Saturday, the flight will depart Newcastle Airport at 1340 and arrive in Munich at 1640. For the return, Lufthansa will depart Munich at 1150 and arrive in Newcastle at 1255 (local time). Complementing the well-established Eurowings service from Newcastle to Dusseldorf, this new route for Lufthansa opens up even greater potential for driving business between the UK and Germany (and beyond), the second largest trade partner after the US. Announcing the new flight, Andreas Köster, Senior Director Sales UK, Ireland & Iceland, Lufthansa Group said: “We are delighted to announce this new service to elevate economic growth in both business and leisure markets across the North East of England. At Lufthansa, we pride ourselves on being a premium, full-service airline and in connecting our customers to one of our two major hubs with our world-wide network. This new service will provide our customers from Newcastle with convenient and nonstop access to one of Europe’s most visited and economically thriving cities as well as extending onward travel.” Lufthansa coming to Newcastle is also good news for the development of tourism and businesses in the North East. Newcastle Airport recently collaborated on a new Inbound Tourism strategy to promote the region to international markets with official tourism body, VisitBritain. The new strategy promotes inbound travel into the region for mutually beneficial economic development. Germany is currently the North East’s largest inbound tourism market and Munich is Germany’s second most visited city, both of these two cultural and dynamic regions will be supported further with Lufthansa’s brand new connection from 2020. Cllr Iain Malcolm, Leader of South Tyneside Council and Chair of the LA7 Airport Holding Company adds: “Germany is an important destination for both business and leisure customers, so the addition of Munich to the flight schedule will be welcomed by all customers who fly from Newcastle International Airport. This new flight opens up more business and holiday opportunities and greater flexibility for our residents whilst complementing our existing flights to Dusseldorf.” This announcement highlights Lufthansa’s positive development in the UK following the recent frequency increase of the Munich to Manchester route by five additional weekly flights from four in November 2019. On a side note, funnily enough I was looking at the route map on the Lufthansa on-board magazine this Monday just gone and I'm relatively sure Newcastle had the little asterisk to mark it as new destination? Unless it was merely a reference to the Düsseldorf service (being seasonal, if at all?).

Oh this old chestnut is back, she has tried hubbing FRA a few times over the years. I am not even sure MUC is actually new? Was there not summer flights at one point and probably a link while I was in nappies?
As for me, well the public transport over there is awful and the Hertz at NCL is rubbish so its years since I'm using NCL but I'd definitely give it a go and my friends will appreciate the link. Would be a lonnggggg wait for KRK flight in winter on the return though. Maybe Helga can get her cheque book out and pay for Aspire Plus! Fast Track will be a freebie for her. |

Lufthansa previously operated the NCL-DUS service before the great handover of everything to Eurowings so this is not a first for Lufthansa at NCL but perhaps the person who wrote the press release is still wet behind the ears and doesn't bother to check their facts.
I have friends in the NE who will certainly welcome a direct connection to MUC and onwards even if it is only once a day on six days at present. BA seem to be reducing their NCL offering and using A321s to keep up capacity but that's capacity which can lead to some very long layovers in the hell of T5. |
Good to learn LH is increasing their presence in the UK especially to/from MUC. They recently announced an additional weekday rotation between MAN and MUC in W19.

Today LH have announced resumption of the MUC-TLL route three times a week from 04NOV19 |
And Helga generally doesn't mess around when it comes to paying for lounges, so like the FRA service, MUC will have it too.
(As I posted I witnessed BArb's last flight from TLL, I really wondered what happened to the Ready to Fly sizer. I fully expected Margaret Pennywhistle to take that away once all the pax had boarded.) |
When LH operated NCL-DUS before the downgrade to Eurowings there was lounge access I think to the Aspire lounge but it's not now where it used to be.
I wonder whether LH will quickly downgrade this route to Eurowings after a bit of opening publicity now that EW are operating MUC services. There is no lounge for the NCL-DUS EW service. |

I thought the general rule is LH operate most short haul flights themselves out of FRA and MUC and every other flight from German airports is handled by EW. I think certain routes are being transferred over but not many and I’m sure it’s routes where LH can’t make profit but possibly EW can. |

Perhaps we should let LH take some bookings on the new route first before consigning it to a EW downgrade?
