Upgrading R fare to J with M&M miles

Just want to confirm that this is indeed impossible. Trying to go from R PE to any business class fare using M&M or United points. Thanks!

Moin!

R is an United booking class, that maps the LH N booking class which is the cheapest Premium Economy booking class. If you are booked on United metal you should be able to upgrade with United miles (and possibly a co pay) or a GPU if you have one. However if you are on a LH code shares all bets are off, as upgrading code shares can be challenging anyway (always try to book the operating carriers flight numbers - at least if you are on MilagePlus) and upgrading LH only works on there E (United A) or G (United O) fares anyway.

Hope this helps.

So long

more details are needed. Is this a UA or a LH operated flight? If UA operated .... yes, it should be doable. If LH operated ... you are likely out of luck.

LH-operated, sold through LH.

I had the feeling so I just went ahead and purchased a P fare instead as it was not a huge price difference.
