How much longer will LH fly the A380?
With the announcement of ending the A380 production, what's the outlook for this plane with LH?
How long will it keep flying them?

Will there maybe a fleet reduction by phasing out older models? SQ for one, was already returning its first A380s.

The 4 oldest LH A380 are from 2010. I guess they will at least get a 20 to 25 year duty cycle, so probably starting phasing them out not before 2030. The newest one is from 2015, which takes them into 2035 to 2040.

The first 777-9 should be delivered next summer but I think those will replace the oldest 744s first.

I would assume LH will fly them for quite a while, as large aircraft fit their rather strong focus on two major hubs quite well. Depends also on the competition.

A very long time before LH ditches the A380, they are not old, look how they are still using A346

According to the reports A380 is profitable when it flies full. So we'll probably see the A380s around on the popular rotes. I'm still amazed every time it takes off...

LH has usually been pretty good with rolling out a homogeneous product to the whole fleet and I doubt it will be different in this case.

If 2 pax together it’s cosy

It seems to take LH forever to retrofit, and actually First Class is considerably older than the current Business Class.

The A380 is still part of the 2025+ fleet plan. The small subfleet is not a major issue as they formed an MRO alliance for spares and maintainence before the first one was delivered. The A346 was a flop for LH because the fuel cost vs B77W guarantee ran out after 10 years and the aircraft had a unique engine type that in small numbers is expensive to maintain and hold spares for.

Maybe from a purely cost-oriented point of view. I very much like it and sometimes do go out of my to catch an A346 instead of a B777.

I agree it could be faster.

But still better than some competitors that fly old generations of cabins until the planes get scrapped.
