Infant award taxes

Having become a father recently, I am trying to figure out the cost of adding an infant to an award booking.

eg: ORD-FRA-BRU oneway is 52.000 miles and 612.58 USD (taxes, fees and airline surcharge).

Adding a newborn infant would then cost 0 miles but an additional 612.58 USD?

You have to call in to add a lap infant & it’s a very small amount of fees, route depends but it’s very little & as you say 0 miles.

Infants have no surcharges on Lufthansa (but on Swiss) & the taxes for infants are also lower.

When you call in, ask them to break out the taxes. Remember that taxes and fees are entirely different animals. Taxes paid to the government and simply collected by the carrier. Fees are a cash supplement and part of the fare.

You will wind up paying some of the former, but there should be none of the latter.

Yes, for a lap infant it should only be government imposed taxes & airport charges if any, nothing from LH
