777 might feature first class...

“Emirates will cut the number of such berths to 11 from 14 on its A380s, and Lufthansa’s 777 widebodies may get just four first-class seats, down from eight today.”

A glimmer of hope!

We'll see... My recent experiences on flights to and from JFK/EWR is that when I book the flights (a few days or even 2-3 weeks before departure) almost all seats are already assigned and the cabin is full on departure.

In terms of that map in the article with "busy" F routes, not showing "Frankfurt---New York" as a busy route and showing "Paris---New York" is just wrong since LH has 3*8 seats (JFK/EWR) every day and AF has either 2 or 3 flights daily with F depending on the season with either 13 or 22 seats total.

There is hope after all. Better 4 seats in F compared to ZERO.

Looking at that graph, nobody has cut more first class seats than Lufthansa in the last 10 years. If first class is now showing sustainable demand it will hopefully lead to Lufthansa reconsidering the decision for 777.

“First class acts as a buffer that allows airlines to overbook in business,” Engel says, “since nobody will mind getting bumped into first class.”

As per the following AUSBT article, it is confirmed that the second batch of 777X fleet will have an improved and upgraded First class cabin:

Good to hear that Spohr wants to keep an F cabin in about 50 percent of the long-haul fleet.

50%, that’s exactly like it is today...

F on 14 A388, 19 B748, 16 A346, total 49
No F on 12 B744, 8 A343 (+6 EW), 17 A333, 12 A359, total 49 (plus EW)

Right. And nowhere in the article did he (CEO) say anything about a different/improved/upgraded/suite F--just F.

Missed opportunity for another journalist, nothing in either of the two versions of the same interview. One speculated about new F though...

Well, that’s what “keep” means. ;)

And the current F is now showing its age, however LH have never been anywhere near leading the market in seats...

I would still much rather see evolution than revolution there. Different from the „suites“ products, some good and some bad, on many other airlines.
