LHR T2 - car to gate times?

Evening all. I’m an infrequent user of LHR so want to get my timings right. Departing on LH at 0725 on a Monday morning, Y class, no status, hand baggage only, with boarding pass in the app on my phone.

If I am getting out of my taxi at 0630, will that be enough time to get to the gate?

That is a busy time at LHR T2 (and M25). If you're travelling in Y without any status, I would plan to arrive earlier than that.

Good point about the M25. Should I invest in a fast-track security pass, do you think?

Disclaimer: I "visit" LHR only once or twice a month. Our UK expert is @NewbieRunner.

It depends on a number of factors. Is your ticket flexible? If not, how do you value your time relative to the cost of a walk-up fare? Do you have a connecting flight at your destination? Would it be catastrophic if you arrived later than expected? (...)

The other thing you need to think about is the possibility of a B gate at T2, they are more usually long haul but I've had them a few times recently on early departures on LX, OS and LO - LH might use them too but I haven't been on LH recently in the early morning. It's a fair walk. Gold track is often busy in the early morning, there are something like twelve departures in the first hour from T2 and nearly as many in the second one so just think about 3000 people making their way through the terminal at the time you are!

With no priority I would not allow less than 90 minutes and the one thing staff in T2 are really strict about is gate closure not less than T-15 and sometimes more and there is no flex on this at all.

The UK has airports other than LHR.

I’ve only been to LHR twice in the last 4 years: arrived from KEF on Icelandair a few months ago and made a detour so I could visit T2 lounges in 2014. Therefore I’m no expert on departures from LHR.

This thread in the UK & Ireland forum might help.

I might even fly via LHR to longhaul destinations if there is a *A option (or any non-BA option) to fly MAN-LHR but unfortunately there isn’t since the demise of bmi and more recently Virgin Little Red .

Thanks all for your advice. Sounds like I need to pull it forward by at least 15 minutes. Have also posted in the UK&I forum on the same topic..

I spent many years on the earlier flight -- despite knowing T2 like the back of my hand with a SEN card, I would never cut it as fine as your original suggestion of 630am

At that time in the morning, it has never taken more than 5 minutes for me to pass through fast track security while the normal line always seems backed up.
