If you had a M&M CC in the UK before, you can ask for an extension of the expiry deadline as M&M has not found a CC partner for your market. I remember a similar arrangement in France a few years ago.

If you were offered the chance to buy LH miles at 0.85p each then you would be all over it, as would most other people on this forum. So why aren't you salivating over this offer?
Because .... you think you're being asked to pay twice for the same thing. Your emotion is clouding your logical faculties.

Really poor show by M &M. You'd expect them to show generous latitude during this once in a lifetime Covid phase. Where do I go with the 500,000 miles by end of December when so many travel destinations are not welcoming visitors.

You are not being economically rational.

I just mentioned to LufthansaGermanAirlines I used to keep the miles valid with the UK Credit card but this was no longer available asking if there were any options to keep my miles valid.
Answer was a link to pay to keep them active.

all terms & conditions within the U.K. have to be fair & reasonable otherwise they are not legal
What LH / M&M are doing, if they reclaim your miles under the circumstances is patently unfair, unreasonable & illegal in U.K. Law & that’s what you need to spell out to them !
