Likely that Hainan blew most of their budget on paying Skytrax as Airbus aren't sending them A330s any more as they've been unable to make their payments: https://airlinerwatch.com/airbus-sto...roup-airlines/
HNA seem to be entering some kind of death spiral, I guess the Chinese govt are going to do an Anbang on them at some point.
And talking of death spirals, I note that EY are absent from the list (although their ultimate backers are unlikely to run out of cash any time soon).

I wonder can an airline go from 5 stars to 4? I presume EY can't maintain the five star position when they've dropped so far down the list It's amazing to see someone so far down that seems to have amazing premium products.

Either those were unfounded rumours from the gutter press (note: primary source was Daily Mail) or the BA execs went to Skytrax and asked what it would take (ahem) to keep the 4 star rating.

They really have taken a dive in recent months IMO. Plus, the product is too inconsistent. Sometimes you get a good flight, but sometimes you get a really bad flight and crappy crews.
I find it hard to say anything good (most would be unprintable) about Skytrax and it's beyond me how so many companies and people have been duped by this fraud of a company.

I found it quite interesting that the skytrax rating is given so much importance. But then again I complained about LX being abscent so I too gave it somewhat of attention.
I tip my hats to the skytrax guys not for how they rate, but for being able to build a Business and gain so much importance in the industry with something essentially only being propaganda with no objective fundament. Their marketing guys deserve a raise.
