And you were absolutely right in doing so. In these parts, most people tip a little or a little more for good/extraordinary service, but it is abosutely acceptable not deliberately identify dreadful service (more so than the taste of the apple strudel, which is not the waiters fault) by the lack of a tip. I would even counter a remark such as "It is customary to tip in Austria" by something like "It is also customary to provide good and friendly service in Austria..." No need to feel bad.

Do you tip your flight attendants? What about your pilots? The latter drives the plane you're on...

Oh, we've got that covered: Can I give a tip or gift to a flight attendant?

That’s debatable. Arguably the notorious grumpiness of Viennese Coffee House waiters correlates positively to the respective establishment’s prestige.

"Ugly Americans" still exist ... I've seen them in NZ, on river cruises, everywhere. I hope that, eventually, these travelers will "wake up" and realize there are reasons not everyone is an American (or would want to be).

Please don’t tip. It’s their job.

On a UAL flight, picked up plane side off the devil's chariot in IAH and driven to lounge. I asked the gentleman escorting me if tipping was customary, and he declined (as I thought he might). I asked if I could tip the young driver (it looked like his first day), and he smiled and said he might appreciate that. So I did.

I don't care much about prestige and hate unfriedly service.

Sure, if you want to & that’s in the good old USA.

But the topic is LH FCL limo drivers.

And while we're at it: don't forget to tip the shower attendants at least 20€ because of the great job they do.

There was actually a thread recently where someone reminded everyone to do so. By the time I'm off the ground I will probably have spent more in tips than in airfare.
