This is an excellent deal for anyone who uses cheap K and L tickets which currently yield only 125 miles per sector in Europe. The earning rate will typically at least double.

Interesting that UA and AC get 6 as a multiplier for FTL/SEN/HON while SN only gets 5.

Am I right in thinking that the system for status miles stays the same?

instead of 125 (or 250 if it was roundtrip)..
wait where's the catch ?
Expect a devaluation of the award chart.

Game over.
To get a 100.000 miles award I would need to spend 16.666 EUR with LH. Yeah, sure. And then pay YQ on top.

AF-KL gave the green light signal for doing this and LH decided to jump on board the bandwagon. Expect BA/IAG to jump in on the action too. And then watch the EU3 airline industry cartel kingpins exercise discipline to try to get the rest of the market to follow the cartel kingpins..

There was some strange lawsuit a while ago that now LH would release any changes 3 months in advance. Note this is for tickets purchased post March 12 (AF and all the US carriers’ change have been by travel date and sometimes in the case of Delta with zero notice).

Presumely any award cost increase would be only effective for tickets purchased 3 months after announcement date. For my purpose I probably could find ways to liquidate 200k should that happen on a massive scale.

Just book the flights on UA ticket stock and you will get the old values.

You are forgetting that for a €99 ticket, only about €25 of that is the fare and the rest is taxes:

Some of the surcharges probably count so you're probably looking at about €40-ish for the calculation of miles, or, at 4 miles per €1, about 160-ish miles for a return.

So a 5.000€ F ticket that awarded 36.000 miles will now award less than 30.000 miles. Better start looking for another mileage program, this one is a disappointment at every turn.
Edit: they should rename "Miles & More" to "Pay & Less".

It's all good and well that you don't like the devaluation, but honestly, do you expect better anywhere else?
