AMS-MUC on LX? Ok So 500 M+M for that leg, that's better than expected.

I don't think so. There are cheaper ways to gain segments. And you don't even have to live near FRA or MUC to take advantage of those.

Fare basis is SLGTPASS with a 3€ base fare. Issued by LX in BRQ fare charged to a debit account at LX. I'm curious if I got S because that was the lowest BK available for the return...

Btw, don't LH do all that stuff in BRQ too?

There are no limits on the sectors you can fly. The limiting factor would be to fly the shortest (by duration) flights from MUC and FRA. It might be a fun, nerdy exercise to determine what that set of flights would be, remembering that some of the shortest flights like MUC-NUE and FRA-NUE are not possible because domestic flights are excluded. I have chosen the shortest flights by distance from MUC and FRA from the route map and then refined the search by looking up the flight times. I might have missed a flight that is listed with a shorter flight time, since distance is only a rough estimator of flight time.

FRA-LUX 175 km 0:40 h + 0:50 h = 90 minutes
FRA-BSL 282 km 0:45 h + 1:00 h = 105 minutes
MUC-PRG 266 km 0:50 h + 0:55 h = 105 minutes --> endpoint for 6 hour pass
MUC-GRZ 312 km 0:50 h + 0:55 h = 105 minutes
FRA-ZRH 286 km 0:50 h + 1:05 h = 115 minutes --> endpoint for 9 hour pass
MUC-TRS 309 km 0:55 h + 1:00 h = 115 minutes -> endpoint for 12 hour pass
MUC-BSL 328 km 0:55 h + 1:00 h = 115 minutes
MUC-ZRH 261 km 1:00 h + 0:55 h = 115 minutes
FRA-BRU 304 km 1:00 h + 1:00 h = 120 minutes
MUC-VCE 320 km 1:00 h + 1:05 h = 125 minutes

That would mean the most segments per person for the different passes would be:
6 hour pass: 6 segments with a remainder of 60 minutes and equating to €41.50/€35.75 per segment on the single/companion pass
9 hour pass: 10 segments with a remainder of 20 minutes and equating to €37.90/€32.95 per segment on the single/companion pass
12 hour pass: 12 segments with a remainder of 85 minutes and equating to €41.58/€36.21 per segment on the single/companion pass

I will let the maximisers improve upon my calculation.
Pitero and B0gdan like this.

Are you sure that works? I thought - from reading the webpage - that you need to travel r/t?

That calculation is R/T.

Two observations I have:
  • Not sure if return block time is same as outbound. Might throw a wrench in calculations occasionally.
  • Interesting that MUC-ZRH has higher block time compared with FRA-ZRH even though the latter is futher away.

I have added the block times for both directions. It reduces the maximum number of segments possible.

Just fyi... block time is defined on the bottom of the time pass homepage (https://www.lufthansa-timepass.de/en). For example, FRA-LUX r/t counts as 1h25m vs. the 1h30m you do use in your calculation.

Here are all the routes that are up to 2 hours in the timepass:

ORGN DEST BLOCK R/T
FRA LUX 01:25
FRA BSL 01:45
MUC GRZ 01:45
MUC PRG 01:45
MUC ZRH 01:50
MUC TRS 01:50
FRA BRU 01:55
MUC BSL 01:55
MUC VIE 01:55
FRA ZRH 02:00

total: 18:05

As you can see, it's fairly annoyingly just over 18 hours.

For 6 hours, you can get 6 segments, 9 hours 10 segments, 12 hours 12 segments. 18 hours wuold have almost been 20 segments, but is 18.
The weird utilization is because of what is left over.
As for price, it works out 41.50 per segment / 37.90 per segment / 27.72 per segment for 6/9/12. The extra 5 minutes put 18 hour option at 41.55 per segment.

Always into S (even if a cheaper bucket is available) and S availability is required to book?
