Dire times for LUG.
MXP is too close (and with more rail links to come even closer!)

ZRH is too close (with SBB providing reliable service)

It's just like those regional airports in Germany where a big hub is less than 2 hours away.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Open a check-in desk at the Lugano railway station where I can drop my luggage off and we'll talk. If all the risk of arriving to ZRH by train is on me, it's not a great option IMHO.

I always thought, with the opening of the new 57km Gotthard tunnel last October, that the viability of LUG as an airport would be severely tested, certainly for the LUG-ZRH route.

Totally agree with the check in desk at Lugano station, but I don't see it happening.

Unofficially, a Swiss civil aviation agency (CAA) withheld the licence from Darwin Airlines. Adria (JP) cancelled a couple of flights today.

What the heck happened there? This is like bananland! Are they actually in financial difficulty? Sorry if I've missed something major here. Incidentally, another upstart airline, Powdair, is having difficulty after one of their financial backers walked away. Powdair was hoping to connect Sion to the rest of Europe and hasn't even started operations yet.

Somehow VLM Airlines managed to make a comeback, which smacks of something strange, shadowy and handshakey to me. But I don’t think Darwin Airline will come back. Shame, because both they and FlyBaboo filled the gap left by Crossair back in the mid 2000s. The thing that bothers me a bit, yet again, is that there was no mention of something being wrong, no rumbling in the background like with Skywork. Incidentally, what is their status?

Just to be clear, Adria Airways itself is ok and continues operating, right? We are just talking about the Adria Switzerland sub brand here I believe?

Adria continues operating, but not exactly on the best financial terms one would say.

Do you mean Adria Switzerland, or the Adria Airways based in Ljubljana? Looks like Sion is destined to become an airport of history what with this and the PowdAir debacle. In the paper this morning app Darwin pilots have been asked to work for no salary this month and no guarantee of one on December.

F7 is officially bankrupt.

With the new train link between Lugano and MXP I think this is the end for LUG as well.

Noticed that at least one of the Saabs Adria acquired is now complimenting the Dash-8s for LX on LUG-ZRH.

Saab: "You're so pretty!"
Dash-8 (blushing): "Thank you!"
