Arrive early to JFK? FU!

So, I'm sure this isn't new news for many of you, but I arrived early for my LH F to FRA and the check-in counter refused to take my bags as it would be a "security issue" to take them earlier. I'm getting really tired of everyone hiding behind stupid/lazy policies under the guise of a "security issue". And, not just because I'm annoyed, the JFK staff for LH are not very professional IMHO. When I walked up to the check-in for F, they asked me more than once which class of service I was in. I don't look like a bum either. So don't get your hopes up that the red carpet means anything. It's an empty prop.

So much for avoiding Belt Parkway traffic.

I don't think that there are rules saying that they have to refuse bags more than 3 hours before the departure in the US. There might be internal rules. If that's the case, LH should definitely look into easing the rule for premium passenger if the check-in is open for a prior flight anyway.

I've dropped my bags a couple of times at the BA counter when they open the check-in for the earlier flight (probably 4 or 5 hours prior to departure and I really wanted to get rid of the luggage). If there's no prior flight, they usually open the check-in 3 hours before the flight anyway.

Regarding your treatment, I would imagine that you were merely unlucky. IME LH personnel is usually ver courteous and friendly irrespective of what status or class you are traveling in. YMMV.

Makes Geneva airport look like pure luxury in comparison. I used to be able to check in my bag any time, including the night before, then go off and do things in the city. But that was flying LX and GVA is sort of a home airport for LX. I honestly wouldn't expect anything else in an airport like JFK. And this security sickness is just tedious.

This is annoying and luckily I haven't had these issues before with LH at JFK. Which flight/departure time and when did you get there?

Oh my God! They dared ask you whether you were, indeed, flying F? They did not recognize your Armani suit? They made you utter the word "First" twice in front of other people? This is certainly one of the most outrageous behaviours I've ever heard in the business. If I were you I would have sent a video of the scene around, showing that LH is on par with UA in terms of treating their passengers. Tsk, tsk, tsk...

I'll double your 24 hours: SQ allows you to check in, drop bags, and go airside at SIN 48 hours before your flight. Before a morning departure, it's nice and relaxing to check out of your hotel around 4 pm (or later if they permit it), check in (preferably at their FC check in lounge), go through the "private" FC passport control that exits pretty close to the lounge, and then get drinks and dinner in TPR, perhaps after a nice shower, before retiring to the transit hotel for the night. Next morning, return to TPR for breakfast before boarding.

I think it needs to be distinguished between home airport and away airport. Yes, SQ let's you do all of that in SIN, but for example in MEL they open check-in and all the show only three hours before the scheduled departure... AFAIK, LH will let you check in early in FRA/MUC without any issues... And for the JFK? We all know whom to blame...

Apart from the bag drop issue,... I found the JFK F service including a PA helping to skip the line at TSA and the First class lounge always very good and professional.

They never asked me what class I fly, just hand them over the passport and few seconds later get by boarding pass.

Couldn't have expressed it better.
I must be an idiot (or not a "real" first class passanger), as I always feel honoured, when I am getting asked if I fly 1st.

JFK has no security rule regarding checked luggage drop.

LH may well have internal policies as do most carriers, but those are policies and should be distinguished from security rules.

It is common for carriers to have bag drop time limitations because of limited space for bags once the bags have cleared TSA screening (which passengers do not see at JFK). But, to contort that into a security rule is not correct. This also has nothing to do with class of service.

I presume you aren't CK Louis. Because you aren't funny.

The poster was commenting on how it seems they question whether you are in the right line. The better protocol would be to believe people are NOT in the wrong line.
Do people get re-checked in first class to make sure they are actually supposed to be sitting there? When there is something fishy (like two people in the same seat) they check, but otherwise most airlines don't. Why not?

Haha, but that is more a function of SIN airport. They even allow people to check in early for other carriers, like budget carriers!

Well, JFK is JFK. I arrived 15 mins early once for official check-in time with hand luggage only and was refused a boarding pass in F. Please come back in 15, was the message given. They were sitting at the counters drinking coffee. Apart from that, service was all around good and professional including escort to front of TSA line and a very good dining experience in the lounge. In retrospect I perhaps could have downloaded the LH app and checked-in online, but I wanted the escort due to the lines.

PHL is PHL, too.

Arrived 5 hours before flight and the crew working the flight were standing near the signage which says "Check-in begins 3 hours prior to flight". They confirmed it by saying "Please come back in 2 hours".

LH app told me I couldn't check in, so no choice there.

And TSA that day? One of the worst groups I've experienced. Indiscriminately barking out and chastising at everyone in line. Wife and I both have TSA Pre✓ (based on paid Global Entry) and they still made us remove laptop, liquids, and light jackets. They don't know their own rules.
